SSL certificates provide secure and encrypted communications between a website and an internet browser. When installed on a web server, it activates the padlock and the https protocol and allows secure connections from a web server to a web browser. Installing SSL on your web server/website will be good for you because it secures and encrypts the connection between your site and the user accessing it. Recently Google also came with a statement that they will reward the sites having SSL certificates or https protocol. Means that the ranking of the websites having https protocol will get a boost in SERP.
SSL certificates are very expensive, even $150 for some hosts, so the best idea is to use a free SSL certificate from a third-party site.
