SEO techniques changes. A couple of years ago, having meta tags ensured that your content will get a good position on SERP. Directory submission was the best way to generate backlink. These days, these SEO techniques are no longer working. Webmasters misused meta tags so much that Google no longer recognizes meta tags. There are so many directories and many of them are poorly ranked therefore directory submission also does not work.
However, there are some SEO techniques that always stays, for instance, keywords usage.

What’s changing in the SEO is the algorithm. I still don’t know why Google has to change the algorithm from time to time. Maybe it is their way of protecting their secret formula. For a test, search your website and save the search list. After 30 minutes or so, search your website again and compare the search list with the previous. For sure, there will be a change in the position at least for the first page.
