What methods have you used to advertise your site? Which methods worked out the best for you?

I have tried free advertising as well as paid advertising. I use social networks, social book marking sites and forums for free advertising. I also do paid advertising on social media. I have used facebook ads to promote my sites as well as products. Good thing about facebook ads is it is a low cost advertising method.
You can also advertise through Adwords, however, I am yet to use ad words to advertise my services and products.

My idea of advertising is the free advertising since my orientation is personal websites and not the big ones. What’s good in free advertising is that you don’t spend a cent although you need the time and effort. One avenue is social media where you can post or tweet about your website. The post need not be plain advertisement because that is tantamount to spamming. If you are creative with your post, you can hook the readers to click on the link of your website and that’s free traffic for you.
