Is it true that Google implements some kind of censorship compared to other search engines?

I read the other day on Youtube that Google doesn't show some sites in his search results. Is it true? is this some kind of censorship?

I think they said that Duck engine is more transparent and offers more transparent results.

Do you know anything about this?

Google is the most useful application for me in getting informative and knowledgeable answers, so for me as long as google help me a lot, there's no need to question its engine.

Yes, I agree with you. I don't see any problem with censorship. It's a security measures as set by Google. It's still the best since It provides multiple response on series of questions. It satisfies our curiosity. We learn a lot of things thru the use of google search engines.

You are right about that Em14. Google has been the most used and most efficient search engine. I don't care if they made some censorship as long as it functions well. I believe that they only do what needs to be done to protect their company and the users as well.

Google has its own algorithm on how it ranks search results, although I believe that they have and do implement the option of censoring certain keywords in specific regions. And yes I agree with you, it does seem like a sort of censorship!

That may be true, however I don't care, it's not that big of a deal for me because I'm satisfied with Google search, if they're really censoring some results then maybe they did it to protect their users, give their users better results because compared to other search engines, Google seem to prioritize better websites that's why I never liked any other engines.

I'd never heard of any kind of censorship but I've always found Google to be reliable. When I search for something, Google's results are displayed in what I would deem the most logical order. I've used other search engines like Bing before, and they're useless IMO.

Is the a question of ranking or censorship? Do they not show certain results because they do not fit their criteria of censorship? E.g they are not useful content e.t.c. This may be the case because I have actually never heard of google censoring anyone's results. I know the results are based on the relevance of your content to the keyword. If there is censorship please give us some examples.

The amount of censorship is increasing lately indeed, and it's not surprising. The left wing ideology is getting absurd lately and affects almost anything. We as humans begin to lose our first priority - freedom of speech. Google doesn't censorship mature websites only, but rather those they see as not fitting into political correctness system.

I think Google hides other sites due to safety issues. It doesn't show potentially harmful sites in our results. At least that's what I understand from the censorship. There are other search engines you can use if you want more transparency, but you'll have to risk going to a site that isn't exactly safe.

I agree with you. The only reason I see for the google to make such actions is to keep the safety of their sites and their users. It's always better be safe than be sorry. As long as that censorship don't affect my activities in Google, it doesn't really matter to me.

About 1 percent of the sites, that's what Google has indexed so far. Along with other search engines only 4 percent of the web have been indexed. The remaining 96 percent is what we call the Deep or Dark Web.

Yes. Google collecting a lot of user data. They have pressure from the government on what to block and what to show to the users. So they tend to block some of the sites from the search result. And people who are into the google are asked to show the content they show and block. So this is more and more into politics approach. Something many of us need to check and understand as well.

Oh, I see. I didn't know about this. These are such great pieces of information.

I think, it's a safety measure to protect their users from unscrupulous sites. It differentiate from useful and not. Googles has a set of quality standard. I am contented using google search engine and I find it convenient to use. It's easy and fast. It's still the best and reliable search engine.

I'm not quite sure if Google really do censorship. To some extent though, there are some content that doesn't load result when search. It may appear to some engine on the other hand. There might be some reason why they have to do it, probably to safeguard some content that's not for public consumption.

Well, I was able to find out the video in question: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrsCEbi5N7Y

I haven't really had the opportunity to properly watch it, I'll try doing it later today. I just found it curious. At the same time, I'm somehow excited about the possibilities other search engines offer in contrast to Google. hopefully, I'll find features that are useful for me.

I didn't know about this - but I wouldn't be surprised if it's true. Google is the largest and most widely used search engine in the cyberspace, and it wouldn't come as a shock if powerful groups of people try to take advantage of its algorithm.

Not sure about this. What I only know is that, if your content is not relevant to what the users are searching, it will probably not be seen on their search results. But if it is really true, then they may have a good reason for doing that.

Our president says Google favors or weights the search results because when he Googles stuff about himself bad stuff shows up in the search results. I don't believe Google uses censorship. I believe the software programs work the way that they should as long as other people don't try to figure how they the programs work and then game them or workaround so they can show up in the top search results. If people outside of Google try to work around the search engine, that's not Google's fault. Google had the opportunity to build a search engine for China that would have used censorship and they refused. Or at least, the Google employees refused or protested. The fact that they protested kind of indicates that they could do it if they wanted to. They got the tools and they got the talent!

I read somewhere that Google does this. There are many things that are not allowed to be posted on internet yet they are. Violence, murders, bullying. So Google has a censorship when it comes to censoring this kind of content because it can be rather disturbing and gross.

I actually know that Google does censorship, but what I didn't know was the reasons as stated on the above comments. Thank you

I have no idea and I don't really care. Plus, I don't like Google in the present day (it's going down in quality and it's going growing a tech monopoly which can spell problems), so I don't use their search engine anymore. Duckduckgo is much more reliable, no censorship, and probably a better version of Google.

I stumbled across bing but since i was already so used to Google, i typed google in the search engine lol. Google is the most recognised and most effective search engine and they put measures in place that could act as a disadvantage to web pages. You need to learn ways to ensure your page isn't one of those that are disadvantaged and if it is, find a way around it

There's been some rumors that they have shown bias and buried results from conservative-leaning news sites and blogs. I don't know just how much truth there is behind those claims, as I haven't looked into them too much.
But if you want to make sure you're getting more unbiased information, you can take the time to look past the first page of search results, or use other search engines in addition to Google.

Yes, I saw some of them implemented before. Usually, sites that provide content that violates copyright law doesn't show up in results. Is this what you're referring to?

I don’t want to speculate on this issue because censorship is against the freedom of expression that we are espousing in the internet. But I guess all search engines have their own measure regarding the freedom that I have mentioned and we all know that the internet is a free area where any kind of person can be. In other words there are people who post unsavory items that I think should be censored.
