How good is Akismet spam filter software?

There are so many ways webmasters use to protect their website from getting spammed by irresponsible posters. I was researching last night and came across Akismet spam filter which was said to reduce or eliminate spam posts especially in WordPress set up blogs.

How good is this Akismet spam filter? Do you think it's 100% reliable?

I have no doubt that Akismet does work. I know that when I first started content creation works, a client had me do some signature work for him. Which did involve putting my email address on various things, such as blogs for comments and such. Well, after a while, Akismet viewed me as a spammer because of this. So yes, I would say that it works quite well.

A company I used to work for used Akismet for their WordPress site. As it's not something I initiated myself, I'm not entirely sure about the details of it. However, I used to write posts for the site and used WordPress a lot to do so, so I did come in contact with the widget. It was extremely easy to use, everything was well-documented and the interface seemed easy and clear to understand.

As far as functionality, I think it was definitely reliable. I'd never noticed any spam in the comments so it seemed to be doing its job. Of course there's a chance that it might not filter out 100% of the spam but I believe you can easily fish the few that do get through out by hand, since Akismet does take care of most of the spam.

I also published blogs using the WordPress platform. That Askimet spam detector works fantastic! I've checked the comments that were caught as spam. A few times the comments caught were not spamming. But the majority of the comments that got zapped? JUNK! They had it coming. LOL.

Honestly it is my first time to encounter such Akismet spam filter software since I have never tried it before, It is good that you share something like these program so that we can give it a try for those members that haven't tried it yet for their respective websites. I will surely check this put since I am interested to know more about it because I want to improve my learnings and knowledge on that particular field.

Me too, it was my first time to hear about akismet spam filter. Based on the comments, it seems effective and reliable. Maybe I should check the reviews to know further about this software.

If you want to protect your site from getting spammed you should direct all inquires to your own mailbox. Each one that comes through and fits as 'spam,' you could simply have gmail automatically block any future correspondence from that address.

That’s what I do, rather than using any specific spam filter. I like having a degree of control over it - sometimes doing things manually ends up being easier in the long run.

I honestly haven't tried Akismet. Also, I haven't even heard of. I'm guessing that it's a good spam filter software. Can someone care to explain how good it is?

Well that is good to know that I am not the only one that is hearing for the first time such Akismet program. It is really good if someone in this site can give us more details and explanation about it because it is good to listen for those members who have some experienced already so that we can be guided accordingly.

Most of the time bloggers will sometimes just disable the entire comment section. People who do poor SEO will try to spam blogs, and this is, to me, seen as a bad SEO practice. If you consider yourself a SEO guru, then do not spam other people's blogs.

I have a blog site that I coded from scratch, and I do not even have a comment system. I do not want one, nor do I need one. If people wish to comment on articles they can do it elsewhere.. lol

I also find the comments do not really hold anything of value so I do not see a reason to actually have a comment section. A lot of the comments these days are negative, especially if you are a grammar Nazi. People are always so quick to point out others people's flaws and we do not need this negativity, there is already so much of that online.

I am not aware of Akismet software and honestly, this is my first time to hear this. But it is good to know that this kind of software exists and we can protect our website from getting spammed.

That is the same plan that I have as I am looking at what software that is going to help on one of the blogs that I work on. This is something that I believe that when adopted, it is go a long way in ensuring we can spam on those sites as well.

Akismet is must have plugin for each WordPress users and get rid of you from spam. Generally each WordPress set up has this plugin and is derived with pre-set up, however it is not activated through default. You may discover appropriate courses on Akismet and significance of this plugin.

Someone I know used akismet to fight spam.

It did a relatively good job but from time to time some spam would slip through. What slipped through wasn't much. So though I would say akismet is good at what it does, it isn't perfect. You'd need to do some of the cleaning up yourself.

I am not familiar with Askimet filter spam. I only see it on some sites like a warning that their site is run by Askimet. I don't know how different it is to other filter spam application or program. Will it be effective compared to others?

I have mostly noticed that spam is much cleaner with akismet. There are some other brands in anti spam market too. But mostly the akismet seems to be lot better with the content protection. It protects forums, blogs and many other small forms too. So depending on your usage you may want to test it out in the filtering software. I have mostly found out that akismet works better with the wordpress.

This is great as I have seen some people that are not ready to work pretty fair in some blogs and that is really bad. With the adoption of akismet, I believe it is going to assist in reducing chances of those things in the future.

Yes Akismet has both free and paid plans. I can say that paid plan users get better support. Which is expected. But akismet is kind of free to use and also easy to deploy. So on that note I'd say that such spam filter is easier to use as well. Some blogs just have to use more stricter control on comment side.

Hey there!
I'd say it's okay, as there are other better softwares. Personally, it gets the job done. Akismet has also special spam detectors, that allow the software to monitor and filter all sorts of things more correctly.

It's reliable and it's the best from what I've heard but there are others if you're willing to try them out. CleanTalk and Shield Security are some of the ones you can try if Akisment isn't to your liking.

This is not the best tool. You need to properly configure your mail server and you will forget about spam!
