It never fails, there are always people who jump online and try to put up a website that they think should be making $3,000,000 a year but they quickly figure out it's more of a quest to be profitable than they assumed. You can't make money quickly online unless you're striking online gold, but that's extremely rare and the majority of us have to grind to make some profit online. If you're reading this, you're likely one of the people who know that marketing is one of the biggest things that separates the small businesses from the big corporations in terms of profits. You can't get rich online without knowing proper marketing, and this discussion will cover the 5 basics of marketing that you should know if you want to be profitable.
Marketing isn't easy or difficult, it's repetitive and needs to compile before you see a lot of sales coming in, and people don't think of it that way. Everyone wants a point and click system to make money online, and that's why systems like that sell so well, but they never really work because you're not doing anything real to push your business. In this discussion, I'll be covering the 5 things you should be following when it comes to internet marketing, and they are:
Loyalty and upsells are a great pairing
If you're already gaining a few sales here and there then you can start building your loyalty today. What you'll be doing is talking with your customers and figuring out little things about them. There isn't a set approach you need to follow, just be yourself and talk with them in a friendly manner to build a relationship with them.
After you have a decent relationship with them, the upsell will become easy, so be sure you have plenty of upsells on your website as well as your emails. You can take it one step further and send out custom newsletters to previous buyers where only they can access certain discounts, which will boost their loyalty, and this means you'll bring them back in to make another purchase
Retargeting is key to bring people back
Building loyalty and getting upsells is great, but bringing people back in with retargeting is a key component to any successful advertising campaign. If you have plenty of people coming to your website through organic or paid traffic, you have a source to retarget on Facebook, and all it takes is a little pixel on your pages to show them a specific ad the next time they're browsing their profile
Retargeting is essentially something that will work best if you put it on a checkout page or a thank you page. This way you will be showing ads to the right people on Facebook who have purchased or thought about purchasing. If you can do this, you can get back in front of them and show them something they might have missed or give them a small discount to maybe tip them over the edge and make the purchase they decided not to the first time they were on your website
You should participate on social media
This is a pretty common thing but you'd be amazed how many websites and businesses aren't on social media every week. You don't need to schedule 100 posts a day, just a few a week will work fine, so be sure you're on the right social media platforms and posting regularly.
If you can post to social media regularly you will increase your views, trust, and eventually your sales because of all the new followers and how they share your content with their friends and family You'd be amazed at how successful some companies get by just having a good social media management process
Split testing won't show detailed results immediately
Everyone hears how they should be split testing ads or landing pages to see what works best for their conversions, but they usually get their results too quickly. It takes at least a month to get a little bit of detail when it comes to split testing, so don't think of closing a failing ad after a week, because it might have just been a slow week for that one and the next 3 are going to kill your other ads.
Knowing what works will take time, so give it at least a month before you start to pick the perfect ads or landing pages through split testing.
Campaigns should be expanded based on what you learn and not what you hope
One of the biggest problems I run into is when a company expands their business based on what they want to do and not what the community is doing. Think of the online world as the ocean and you're just a little boat. If you go against the waves you will more than likely get destroyed, but if you go with them you will be able to see some success and keep everything safe
People always expand on what they want to do and not what the community wants to see, and this is why the rare companies that listen to their communities grow at an extremely rapid rate. Look at the video game called "Fortnite" designed by EpicGames. They are always on Reddit reading what people are complaining about and they're watching YouTube to see what glitches people are talking about. They fix the glitches and add in features that people are requesting, which is why they have millions of dedicated players logging on each day and also why they're one of the biggest games out there right now and it only took them a year to do so
In conclusion
It's not difficult to run a great company, you just need to be patient and never pull the trigger too early. If you're chasing profits you will likely see yourself failing because you're doing things too quickly and not researching or reading the data that is coming in. If you take your time and go through the top 5 marketing things I talked about above, you should see some success coming in and that means more profit in your pocket
