4 things to do when you're a budding entrepreneur

We all start off somewhere, but that doesn't mean we are new to the industry, it just means we're new to the competitors.  There are a few things you need to focus on when you're a budding entrepreneur, such as having the knowledge to help out others along their journey as well as understanding what is already going on day to day within your own industry.

Not everyone will get it right the first time, but there are plenty of things you can do in order to be seen as a professional in a short amount of time and boost your own sales.  If you're going the affiliate marketing route, this will still work for you, except the part where you have to be seen as an expert because no one will really notice you when they land on the website you're sending them to lol.

When you're just starting out on your entrepreneur journey, you need to do a few specific things in order to stay on top of the industry, such as:

Always be the expert in the room
No matter what the conversation is, you need to be the all-knowing source of information that people can flood to when they need a question answered.  Sure, you can answer whatever you want and hope you're right, but if you want to be taken seriously you need to be sure you're right when you answer.  You need to be honest and straightforward when it comes to your industry, you can't sugar coat stuff too much because you could give people false hopes, and their screw ups could come back to haunt you since they could easily say "Well, John told me to do this because he said he was an expert!" which might not be true.

If you're unsure of the answer to a question you find online, don't BS your way through it just to get your name out there.  Research what you're about to answer, even if you're familiar with the topic, and answer it in detail so the person asking knows you're knowledgeable about the topic.

If you can do this, you'll see people coming to you time and time again and even become paying customers 4 things to do when you

Treat social media like your blog
When you're posting on twitter, facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, etc. be sure to treat these platforms like they were your own blog.  If you can do this you will start to see more engagement on your posts since people will see you as more inviting within your posts.

The frequency of your posts matters as well, you can't just post once a month and think you're going to be seen as an authority, you need to be posting a couple times a week in order to randomly show up within the search results.  Now, some platforms are better to post on 10 times a day while others are good for just 1 a week.  Take Facebook and Instagram, both owned by the same company yet they're very different, and the post count for the two are very different.  For Facebook, you can post once a week and be fine but posting to Instagram 20+ times a day will only increase your engagement and popularity over there.  If you were to post 20 times a day on facebook you might be seen as a sort of spammer, which you never want, so be sure to figure out the average posting per day per platform before you get too invested into one platform that you might not want to.

Have a multi-platform plan of attack
You need to spread some love and not get stuck on one platform at a time.  If you are only on facebook you'll be missing a massive amount of potential customers that might be on Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram, Linkedin, etc.  Now, you won't want to spread yourself too thin, so be sure you know which platforms are better for you to target so you're not wasting too much time on one that might not convert.

Once you figure out which platforms are best for you, start posting and see which platform your demographic is on most, then you'll really get an idea of which platform you need to target.  The beauty of this is that you can do this and then start running ads on these platforms in order to boost your productivity and success 4 things to do when you

Always follow the hot topics of your industry
If you're on top of your industries news, you'll know how to answer any questions that may come in, which will make you seen as an authority in a strangers eye.  This section ties into the "Always be the expert" section, but it's unique enough to get its own spotlight 4 things to do when you

If you're on top of the news, you'll be learning new things each and every day, which in turn might help you out more than you may think.  Look at the SEO niche, if we weren't on top of the news and updates we would be left in the dust of those who are actually reading each day.  We would all be running SEO software and building profile backlinks to rank #1 for the keyword "payday loans" haha 4 things to do when you  We've read up on plenty of articles, which means we know what to do and what not to do, and now we don't run these pieces of software to boost our rankings 4 things to do when you

Be smarter and stay on top of the hot topics within your industry to always know what's going on.

In conclusion
Being an entrepreneur isn't an easy thing to do, mainly because no one will tell you what to do in order to make money, but you can do it if you keep your head up and get the work done.  I didn't make much money for the first few years of my journey, but over time everything started to click and I eventually started profiting enough to go full time online and leave my full-time job 4 things to do when you  I did everything I wrote above, which shows you this discussion is from real life experience, and I now have my own company and plan to start pushing a unique product to a niche I'm sort of familiar with 4 things to do when you  I plan on being a millionaire sometime along my journey, I just don't know when right now haha 4 things to do when you

I like the point about treating social media like your blog, but I'd imagine that you mean like a somewhat toned down version?

I don't know about other people, but personally, when I see long, article length posts on social media, I'm not inclined to read them. Most people on social media are looking to find bite-sized content that is easily and quickly digestible, therefore I'd assume you'd have to adjust your own content to suit this necessity.

Sure there are people willing to sit through 800+ character posts on Facebook, but I don't think there are many of them out there.

Great post as usual, though!

Oh yeah, of course, 4 things to do when you I usually write up unique snippets of an article I've already written on my own website, then I'll use the "Read More..." trick and send them to my website 4 things to do when you

If they made it all the way to "Read More..." they'll likely click through and read everything I wrote up on my website 4 things to do when you

We are on the same boat regarding long posts. I am not a Facebook addict that I only open my Facebook account once a day and twice at the most. But the time I spend in social media is limited for I don’t want to engage in nonsensical chats. When reading a post, I prefer the short ones that I already understand at a glance. Long posts don’t appeal to me and they are usually ignored.

If your a greenhorn on business then one the best things to do is study the competition by doing this you can see their strenghts and weaknesses and knowing that you could devise your marketing plans relative to the gathered information.
This would give you some advantages and a headstart in building up your business.

Always be the expert in the room
  • Hmmm? Uuhh? I'm fairly good at asking questions. If I can't be the expert, I can share my experiences – the good, the bad and the downright stupid! 4 things to do when you

Treat social media like your blog
  • Yes. It only took about a decade for the light bulb to go off in my head, but it finally dawned on me that my social media accounts could also be a great place to publish blog posts. They don't have to be extremely lengthy posts. Short posts can be quite effective.

Have a multi-platform plan of attack
  • This wasn't actually my plan. (O.o) When I first started working online I just thought: 'Build a website and they will come!' NOT!! Didn't take me long to realize I needed to take the website to the people! But HOW? What happened was my friends were on social media and invited me to join them there. My activity started as just personal connections but I soon recognized that social media was much more than just sharing pics and having conversations with family and friends who were far away. It is a really good business platform. So I started paying attention and each time a new platform arrived I tried to sign up. So now I'm active on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linkedin, Pinterest, Tumblr, Google Plus, etc. If I can create a free profile or page, I go for it!

Always follow the hot topics of your industry
  • This is quite easy to do. Find a site that's loaded with all kinds of information and check to see if they have a newsletter. Many sites do and I sign up to receive updates via eMail. Also, check to see if the site has an RSS feed that you can subscribe to. There are probably lots of ways to stay up-to-date, but these two methods work for me!

You did not include this as a Tip, but you did mention in your concluding paragraphs that in the beginning, you did not make much money. So my advice to budding entrepreneurs is to find a way to earn some pocket change. Join a forum, a blogging community, or an online writing community that pays you for your activity ~ commenting, posting, etc. Within the last 5 years, these types of sites have started popping up everywhere. They won't make you a millionaire but that extra money comes in handy. You can use the money to buy services right here at seocheckout. LOL. That's how I use it. 4 things to do when you Also, you don't have to devote a lot of time to them. Just visit the sites in between working on your main biz projects. These sites are similar to being active on social media, only they pay you a few cents for socializing. They're fun and you meet a lot of people. Lots of them are entrepreneurs just like you!

As always, another excellent post!

Build a website and they will come!

I too thought that when I start off in 2003 4 things to do when you I wanted to make a million dollars a year and only use 1 website to do so, but I didn't know anything about SEO and online marketing at the time. Hell, I barely knew about website design and how to get a domain aimed at a hosting account lmao 4 things to do when you

I'm sure there are a lot of people who thought like us when they started out, which makes me feel better about my start 4 things to do when you

As a budding entrepreneur, you should also strive to make connections not only to people in your field but also in other industries as well since this will help you for any potential expansions that your business may undertake in the future, and will help you earn reputation as you go up the ranks in your industry.

Treat social media like your blog

This is huge to me - I'm actually working for an organization right now that didn't have several social media accounts until recently. They didn't really understand the necessity for it, but now they're starting to understand the reach that social media has, and that you need to have multiple channels for social media too.

I like to classify myself as a budding entrepreneur even though I am running a brick and mortar business since two years and an online business since one year. I am budding entrepreneur because my businesses are not established yet and I am yet to earn profits from my investment. I know what mistakes I have committed and I know what I should do to stabilize my businesses. However, the main problem is implementation. You might be aware of a lot of things, but it is very easy to implement what you know.
Thank you OP for these amazing tips, these might help me.m

I certainly agree that sugar coating is a big turn off. When customers feel that you're fooling them for sure it's a goodbye for potential customers. Social media is a good venue for promoting your businesses it's free and has lots of members so if you have lots followers, friends and subscribers take an advantage of it because if they find your business interesting they might share it with their friends in that way your audience will be wider and sales will be better.

I had a business before the internet came and we were doing manual work when it comes to marketing. We would be using the landline phone to call on prospects and go on a visit if necessary. But now with the presence of social media, I guess it is far too easy to do those marketing chores. A marketing campaign in social media can be handled by a single person in such a short time unlike before when so much time was spent just for the purpose of prospecting. And getting clients is much easier now.

Social media campaign may not work everywhere. For example, I run a business in a rural area, Internet connection is a huge problem here. Therefore, people do not rely on the internet. They do use social media, however, they do not depend on social media. The most effective marketing campaign here us either farmer's market, yard sale, or door to door service. What kind of marketing plan you should come up with should depend on where you are doing the business.

This is great point. I have seen a lot of people who had their success because of social medias. Also, it's a great way to connect with people and it is handy and easy to use. I love how you list down your points and each one of them are really helpful.
