Make them look nice. I know that this isn't always the easiest thing but using a program/website like MailChimp will allow you to design and make the emails that you send to your users a lot more appealing. And this will mean that the people that receive these emails are much more likely to read them.

I agree. While we're told not to judge solely based on appearance, we have to consider that it's actually the first thing we see. And so we react based on the design of emails whether we're aware of it. Taking some time to polish how it looks can make or break our number of opened emails.

We might be told to not judge solely based on appearance, but let's not kid ourselves here, it is absolutely a fundamental part of human nature to judge things based on appearance alone. We as people know what is aesthetically pleasing to us, and when something catches your eye there is a 1000% better chance that you're actually going to give it your attention.

I mean, if you have the choice of a Ferrari or the Ford Pinto next to it, obviously you're going to take the Ferrari because it looks better. That being said, you also have to make sure that the engine works because a Ferrari with no engine is about as good as the Pinto, meaning make sure your content is as good as your aesthetics.

When people receive emails, the first thing they will see is the address. If they see an address that they do not know, they might delete the email or send to spam folder without opening. In order to avoid this situation, you should send emails only to the people who have voluntarily subscribed or to the people who are genuinely interested in your products and services. I agree that an email that looks nice is also nice to read and maybe interesting. But that happens only after the email is opened and it can never happen if the email is not opened. I have been receiving so many emails, some from my subscriptions and some are spam. But whatever the source, my habit is to check the subject that I open which ones look interesting and the rest goes to the spam folder to be deleted after 2 weeks.

Make your emails personalized for each user, but also make your format consistent and appear professional. Open with a good subject line and make sure that the user is being appreciated for their continued support. While it helps to be friendly, it's still important to make the layout and content of your email to be professional and appropriate for your message.

And please avoid some spam words also, I really hate that, or anything that brings up a sale, most of the time it's always at the subject line. Much better to use the name on the subject instead of business name also. Creating a excellent subject line will help a lot, You’ll need to use the right type of words to get their attention but that also explain what’s inside, and create an excellent content also. it's very disappointed if you click an email and the contents is not really helpful.

Right, people really hate that sometimes, specially if it's looks like spam massage. It's gonna be annoying for someone to receive the unfamiliar emails and keep notify them to open it or click it. I hate it also, maybe that's the reason why some unknown emails always make the topic as interesting like, you won a million, you won in a lottery etc. Just to open it and click the their site.

I've done a lot of email marketing in the past and it works best if you're doing it for a well-known brand. Lesser or Unknown brands would never have a chance because if people doesn't recognize your brand or your company, they would just delete it or convert into spam.

I've noticed one common mistake in email marketing nowadays is putting links upfront and in the middle, this is such a turnoff and doing this would brand it as a scam email. Good emails put their links at the end of the email and another thing which is very ineffective are long emails, like those selling get rich quick systems, you know only stupid people would read that kind of crap. Those could have worked in the past but not at the present.

I do not have a lot of experience with email marketing. I gave up email marketing campaign because of low conversion. I have a list of 200 subscribers. I sent emails to these people, however, very few people opened my email and among those who opened my email, just about 5 percent clicked the links. Since I was going no where with my email marketing, I gave up.
Conversion depends on the list, interest of your subscribers and the content you provide on your emails.

It all depends on their interest, that's why you need to ask them first, so that you would know what to give them. If they answer the survey it means their interested in something that you have and knowing that you could formulate a plan to reel them in and convert.

In email marketing emails should be short and concise. It should ask questions in exchange for some benefits. Always do a 2 step email marketing campaign that encourages the receiver to reply.

It's important to note out that making the email too short would make it lack fullness, although it's not to be encouraged to have such mails to be too long as it would bore readers. But having it averagely written would be more appropriate.

You're correct in that emails shouldn't be to short. It should be just right to entice receivers to reply. A big mistake that senders do is they put the link twice or thrice in a single page. I think that neither you nor I would open that kind of email. It's best to entice them with some benefit like a contest or raffle once they take a quick survey. The link should be properly positioned near the bottom, in my experience, I had better results when I make them email me the survey answers, after which I would email them back what they want to learn about along with a link to my site. That way they wouldn't think that it's a spam or an email scam.

I always make it a habit to delete unusual message to my email so that it will not be full and other message would have the chance to be received everyday. It must be clean from any unnecessary message from any other scam sites that offer money for exchange of something. It must be checked as often as possible to see the latest message for the day.

I love the last point about always updating your address book because nothing says that same over a long period of time. People tend to change their mails and it's paramount to update the address book to still get your information passed across to people who would actually make use it. This is actually spot on, and not something I've really considered in the past. Come to think of it, I typically have this exact reaction when I see such an email.

Now, I personally don't really care for newsletters in general, however it does make a difference when it comes to how much time I spend looking at one. If I see that it is just generally addressed, it's almost guaranteed to go straight in the trash bin. But if I see that it has been personalized, I'm guaranteed to at least give it a couple of seconds of attention, which sometimes might be enough to hook me and continue reading.

Those few seconds can make all the difference.

I think if you want to get more emails opened then you have to work on the small details. You have to understand that emails and the content need to be something that people want to read or see. If that is not taken care of then things would be lot different. And people have to find ways to write clickbait titles too. That is what matters the most in terms of the click-through rate.

There are so many good points here, from the creator of this forum and everyone who has participated here. I am really interested in the idea of making my emails more attractive using something like Mailchimp or other approaches. I know that I email a LOT of junkmail before looking at it, because a lot of it IS actually SPAM, but smetimes I realize later that I would have liked to have read a few of the emails I have deleted or marked as phishing/SPAM. That being said, I would not like the same thing to happen to my emails when I am trying to reach out to a market or to possible business clients. I have to be really interested in a product or service in order to regularly read its newsletters. I think this is a tough thing for all of us online freelancers to pull off--getting our contact attempts read and explored by potential clients.

All emails with a generic content coming from a never heard company would always be deleted with no exceptions. Generic emails and newsletters would only work if done by recognized brands like Sony or Samsung etc. One thing email marketers forget in creating a good email campaign is to answer these two questions:

1.Why would I open and read your letter?

2.What would be my benefit in reading it?

Answer these two questions in your first paragraph and people would read the whole page. Also do an old two step reply method, it's still working.

Yes, alot of commonsense type tips here that will make your email stand out. You want to mae sure that the person has a pretty good idea of who your are, and what you are all about. Personalizing them can make you seem like you have a connection with the person.

The thing is does it even matter that much anymore (in terms of personalizing emails)? I think most people realise now that most of the emails are sent via automated systems and websites like MailChimp where the sender actually doesn't personally send out emails to each person, the system just replaces each with the name of the receiver.

Yes, this is true, but I am more inclned to at least look at an email that has my name on it as opposed to one that is completely anonymous. On the other hand, I might just see it as a sales tactic, someone pretending that they know me in order to sell me something.

Emails have become an important part of marketing. With people always on the move, email has become about the only alternative to grab people's attention.They can read them at their own time. I agree with the above tips. The most important tip I think is to personalize emails, so that people don't feel like they are part of a mass. Every time I read an email and it has my name, this grabs my attention.

I have never tried to use email marketing before. However, I have received many emails from other companies. If the email looks professional then I usually go to the site and take a look. Otherwise, it goes to my spam folder. Nowadays, there are so many fake companies and we have to be alert. Email marketing can work provided you send the right message in a professional way.

I think that before getting such emails from several companies, there was a possibility that you might have subscribed to their newsletter which is why any information about them are forwarded straight to your email.

When you think that it's just spam mails that such companies have always send you, it's just best to go and unsubscribe from their newsletter and the mails would stop.

I think a legitimate contest or a raffle if one registers to the site is an old trick that still works because if people knows that it's legit then they would open your email and click the link to go to your site and register.

When it comes to strange emails, you are right that I remove it from my inbox at once. However, I don’t delete spam emails, I just let it stay in the spam folder and if I have time for it, I will check to see what it is. Some spam emails have sense that I sometimes click on the link and then I keep them in a special folder. Again, I never delete emails except those in the spam folder which are deleted automatically after 2 weeks. My take on the email campaign is to make the subject very, very interesting.
