Product Hunt Campaign - How do you get more upvotes?

I recently participated in my first ever Product Hunt campaign. 

What is producthunt?

For those of you that don't know what PH (Producthunt.com) as well its a website were startups or new products are being published and announced. 
Its a sort of Reddit but for companies and professionals from online and tech-related fields. Once your product is featured, it will remain on the homepage of producthunt.com for 24 hours, time in which you will need to gather as many upvotes and comments as possible.

Same as any other modern social platform the level of interaction matters a lot. So it's not only about the votes, you can have twice as many votes as the product on the 1st spot, and you still can end up in the third position. It matters a lot on whos doing the voting, old users and established members of product hunt worth a lot more in votes than new members who generally don't add up to much.

This is where you want your product to be announced 

Anyway, ProductHunt is a cool way to make your product known by people that matter in the tech industry. It is the level of interaction and brand awareness that you can't really get anywhere else. 
You may also get a good deal of traffic and new users as well as potential clients and business partners. 

What is the end goal on producthunt? 

To make the most of those 24 hours when your product is featured on the first page. It matters a lot to end up in the first place. 
The benefits are pretty clear and I've outlined some of them already. 

So how did my experienced with producthunt.com went?

I think it was fairly decent. Came up in on 6th place. The top 20 products are the most competitive so I guess it wasn't bad, although I wish I would have prepared myself a lot better beforehand. 
I wish I had participated in at least one more campaign before this so I wouldn't be surprised about all the new things I needed to learn and do. 

Overall we had success gaining votes from the following sources:

• Asking and answering questions on producthunt community;
  
• Asking personal connections to view our producthunt page and letting them know about our product details;
  
• Sharing on Facebook;
  
• Posting on Facebook groups;
  
• Sharing on Linkedin;
  
• Posting on Linkedin Groups;
  
• Posting on Reddit as well as creating our on subreddit;
  
• Posting on Twitter;
  
• Contacting Publications;
  
• Contacting Bloggers;
  
• Posting on forums;
  
• Posting on other niche related online communities;
  
• Posting on Quora. 

This is everything we used in our 24 hours. I wish we had done more and prepared a little more. So, what methods did you used when featuring your product on producthunt.com?
