4 things clients want more than a pretty website to purchase from

When someone lands on your website, they will want to see plenty of things prior to purchasing, and just having a pretty website won't land you every sale you could have been getting.  Plenty of people think "if you build it, they will come!" and the "they" is customers with open wallets, but that's not really how it all works.  You need to build it of course, but just putting up any old website won't get you a flood of sales and make you successful.  Your website is what they land on, it's not what they're purchasing, so you'll need to have the best product or service possible, you'll need to have a great support team on stand by for any tickets of chats coming in, you'll need your pages to load quick so people don't get annoyed, and you'll need to have some of the best deals online for your products or services to convince people you have a good price and even better deals 4 things clients want more than a pretty website to purchase from

In this discussion I'll be going over 4 of the main things clients want more than a pretty website to make a purchasing decision, and they are:

A great product or service
When someone arrives at your website, they want to see the best product or service possible before they make a purchase.  If your product or service is a knock off, or just made from bad materials, you will likely notice that a lot of people may come to your website but they won't be purchasing.

You will need to make your product or service as best as you can, which means you might need to purchase your competitors products or services to see exactly what is making them so great.  You can then duplicate their system, service, or product and add your own spin to it in order to be unique.  If you can prove that you have the best to offer your clients, they will keep coming back for years to come.

A responsive support team to answer questions
When every someone gets to a website they're thinking of purchasing from, they will usually send an email or open up a support ticket to ask some questions to put their minds at ease prior to purchasing.  These questions can be anything from "What type of shipping do you use for your products?" to "When did you incorporate and how many employees do you have working at your company?".  You'll get a lot of odd questions as well, which you'll need to answer to the best of your ability, because some people may not understand exactly what you're selling so they'll ask questions that might not relate directly to it.

If your support team is responsive, and doesn't let a ticket last more than an hour, you will notice your sales increasing due to people not having to wait long for a response.  So, have the best support system possible and increase your sales 4 things clients want more than a pretty website to purchase from

Quick loading pages so they can find items quicker
Whenever you get to a website, you likely get annoyed when a page loads slow or not at all, and you'll leave before anything shows up.  Well, that's exactly how your visitors think when they land on a slow loading website, which means you'll need to boost your load times.  You can reduce your image sizes, which is usually the culprit to slow loading websites, and your entire website will speed up exponentially.  Think about it, if your site has 5 images on a page and they are 10x larger than they need to be, your website will likely take 5 to 10 times longer to load due to just those images taking forever.  It may not seem like a big deal to you if you have a quick connection, but think about the people who have slow connections and want to buy something online, they'll leave your website if it loads too slow and you'll lose a sale 4 things clients want more than a pretty website to purchase from  So, boost up your website speeds by reducing image sizes and even changing your hosting if needed 4 things clients want more than a pretty website to purchase from

The best deals on high quality products
If you already have the best products, you'll need to have the best deals online, which will boost your sales fairly quick.  You will know people love your products, but if they are priced higher than your competitors you won't get as many sales, which could hurt your overall business.  If you have your prices reduces by even 10% you will notice a jump in sales because you could just undercut your competitors and your visitors will love saving even a little bit of money 4 things clients want more than a pretty website to purchase from

In conclusion
A pretty website is great, but that's all it will be if you don't invest yourself into the rest of your business.  You will need great products and services paired up with quick loading pages and a great support system.  If you can do all of this, which doesn't take a lot of effort, you will notice your sales increasing and you will be happier in the end 4 things clients want more than a pretty website to purchase from

As always, a great service or product is the most important thing you have to think about when starting a business. You have to put time and effort into creating the best products out there.
A great support team is also a necessity! I've had a few bad experiences with support teams, and although the product was good, I ended up not buying anything and not using the services they were providing. Having good relationships with customers, making them feel they're welcome and actually being there to answer their questions, is a must in order to have a successful business.
Thank you for the very informative post. 4 things clients want more than a pretty website to purchase from

I totally agree with you. Customer service is not something they buy, but it might be something that will make them buy products. A good relationship with customers is definitely a must for a successful business. After all, you're dealing with people, it's not just numbers and hypothetical plans. It all comes down to the customer. If you succeed in having a good relationship with your clients, then you can consider your business to be successful.

I agree, the support team is very essential in creating potential clients and keeping regular one coming back for more. It's when costumers feel that they are important and every word they say is valuable. The support team also helps in the potential improvement of the business because they have their hands the inquiries of costumers where you can make appropriate actions.

I once had an experience in ordering a product from one site that sells personal accessories. The product looked good so I inquired about the specifications. After 2 days of not getting a reply, I considered it a dead site. I don’t know if my message was answered because I did not come back anymore and I don’t have the intention of going back again even if their products looked cheap and with good quality. There are other stores that sell those products.

I agree on that website buyers would want a quick loading optimized site because it means the site has a lot of traffic along with good products and or services. An effective FAQ's page also adds to its salability.

Well, a quick loading website doesn't always mean they have a lot of traffic. I have websites that get 5 to 10 visitors a day but the load times are a fraction of a second 4 things clients want more than a pretty website to purchase from By decreasing your load times, you will please more people online that get to your website because they don't have to wait for your pages to load.

Of course, it will also depend on the connection speed of the visitors, but that's out of your own control and you can't do anything to help them with that part. You can just provide a quick loading website with great products or services and they will likely make a purchase if you line everything up just right 4 things clients want more than a pretty website to purchase from

I think often clients don't know what their business needs. They often look at the competitors site and think they want this. And that means some of the time, it can be something one has to discuss with the client. Most of the websites are fancy. And they don;t focus on the conversion. Because the focus with the conversion it can be not that easy just by building website. I think in that context I'd say we have to always see how the competitors are doing things.

If you're doing web design, marketing, or SEO for a client then I can guarantee they don't really know what they need lol 4 things clients want more than a pretty website to purchase from I have plenty of clients that purchase from me because their friends or family members told them they need SEO, but they don't really know what they're purchasing, then I have to explain everything again after they start to complain when they're not millionaires after a week of work lol.

You need to set everything up right the first time, and possibly tweak it along the way, and always be adding new content to your website in order to convince people you're the authority within your niche and they should be purchasing from you 4 things clients want more than a pretty website to purchase from

Having a responsive support team is advice that just about any website owner can use. The speed at which my questions are answered, or if they're even answered at all (looking at you, Steam customer support) can make or break my opinion of the site. It acts as an indicator as to how much the owners are willing to put into caring for their clients.

Quick loading pages is another good one. It's a busy world out there, and many people aren't going to be willing to just sit around while your website loads. They'll lost interest and move on to another one. I'm not saying this is great, as people do need to slow down a bit, but that's just the reality of things.

The thing about getting to have a website is that you should have good products and services that people that visit the site will like to buy. What most website owners fail to understand is that you shouldn't only make it by having a nice website for that is not the only thing that your visitors want to see.

Yes, apart from having a good costumer support and an awesome site it's still ends up to the quality of your products and services. After all it is the reason why they are on the site, the products and services is what makes it profitable. If your product is just a shadow of the site, i think the business will not work at all.

I have to agree those four points are what customers / visitors are always looking at. If you have those four then the site would sell itself. I can't think of anything else to add but quick and reliable shipping.

I agree, shipping and delivery is one factor why costumers have doubts and hesitations of purchasing. Although some of the processes is beyond your control, i still think doing the right measures to make your shipping and delivery competitive is a plus in business.

I think having a pretty web interface is just a first step to attract possible clients/customers, but I totally agree with your key points. Those you have mentioned are really the best thing that the owner should prioritize in order to have a successful business, as well as having a good relationships to your clients/customers.

So many true points here - even though a good looking website might draw clients in initially, if there's no substance behind it then are they really going to want to purchase (or continue to purchase) from you? Probably not! I always value prompt customer service and support when I make online purchases, so that's a key in ensuring I am a repeat customer.

I understand that a website needs to be pretty or pleasant with the design in order to be attractive at first glance. But for the business itself, of course, it is always the product or service that matters. For service oriented businesses, a good rapport with the client is needed to establish a concrete link so that the client will be back for second helping, so to speak. With a product, it should be of high quality and with a guarantee of what the blurb says it is. When the product is good then the business will be patronized more.

Couldn't agree more on this. As an online shopper/seller, I've seen many pretty websites, with amazing modern design, but they're pointless. The products they offer are generic, the websites takes forever to download, or maybe they're full of adds and wasting time issues. I rather stay with a platform that offers good quality items, or maybe special/particular ones, where shopping is fast and easy, and they give me a kind and caring attention as a customer. Period.

Yes, that is true whenever a potential customer visits your site he has a lot more expectations from your site than just the looks and design of the site. the quality of product and services you are offering is the most important thing that you need to concentrate on. The main objective of the customer to visit your site is to know about the product or service you are offering, one must also make every effort to make the website more customer friendly and easy to navigate. if you take care of these basic things along with the look of your website then the customer is likely to stay on your site and purchase the product or service that you are offering
