Selling on a freelancer marketing place is easy to set up, but we all know that getting add ons purchased is a difficult thing to do, because people might just want your initial service and not want to spend any more money. There are ways to entice buyers to purchase more of your add ons with each sale, but you'll have to do it strategically in order to get them interested and want to spend more than the initial payment they had planned to hand over. No matter your service or industry, there are always add ons that can be sold as up sells, which are basically just add ons with a fancy name lol. You try to get these add ons to the main order so you can profit more, which will put more money into your account after the fees and taxes, which will make everyone happier at the end of the service agreement.
Add on services have been around for many years, even before there was an internet, so don't think you're going to be ground breaking by adding a few additional twitter followers or backlinks to your package lol. The add on services aren't what will sell your initial service, your content will do that for you, your add ons are just little treats for your buyers to look over and either get a discount overall by adding on specialty services that you sell more for individually or for the same service that could be bundled on at a lower price.
Add ons need to be structured just right to entice people to purchase, you can't just add other services at the same price you would sell them on their own, because people will just see that as a sort of interlinking and you can just do that within your descriptions lol. Add ons should save people some money, since they're spending more on a service than what they expected to, which is why they will like to see it slightly discounted. It's not a bad thing for you, yes you make less from the add ons being purchases, but you wouldn't have made that additional money if the add on wasn't there
In this discussion I'll be going over a few ways you can get your customers to say YES to your add on services! You may not get them to purchase add ons every single time, but it works well for people who want to already buy in bulk, since they won't look for additional sellers to do some work and they can just stick with you
Add services that compliment the initial work being done
A good add on will compliment the main service, like backlinks and on page optimization being combined, so be sure to do just that. If you're selling a backlink service and have an add on for web design, you might get an additional sale here and there, but you likely won't see many because people looking for backlinks already have a website designed lol.
Think of it this way, if you offer a service to help someone out, what else could they purchase that they would enjoy?
Add the same service, but reduce the pricing for add ons
This is pretty common with a service that has a specific number attached to it like backlinking and content writing. You can sell 100 high quality backlinks for $75 and in the add on section you can sell an additional 100 high quality backlinks for $60, which would be a $35 savings if someone had been on the fence thinking about buying 2 different packages Another way this works is if you have something like a content writing service, you can sell the same amount of content at a lower rate. On my service, I have 500 words for $22 and the first add on is for an additional 500 words but for $35 So, if someone needed a 1,000 words article, they would be able to save on the second part of my service and get 1,000 words of content for less than if they purchased 2 individual services
If you're going to be doing this, you'll need to reduce the pricing for bigger packages as well. Instead of explaining everything, I'll just screenshot my add on section of my content writing service lol
As you can see, the more words someone purchases, the cheaper it gets per word. If you can follow this model, you will be able to get more add ons purchased and that's more money in your bank account when the service is successfully finished
Run a BOGO service with add ons
When you start doing add on services, you might not want to get into BOGO offers, mainly because you can lose some money on these. BOGO stands for "Buy One Get One" and this means if I were to buy the main service, I would get a second for free or at a discounted rate. People absolutely love these! The only downside of this type of add on, if you're going to do them for free, is that you can't really price the add on at $2 and have it work. What you'll have to do is price it as $3, or whatever the minimum is, and that will be your BOGO. Essentially, you won't be able to do the buy one get one free offer, but you will be able to drastically discount your services and people will usually flock to it if they get notified
In conclusion
There are a few ways to boost your sales online, and using add ons is definitely one way to do this. Obviously, there will be a bunch of people who will purchase your main service without any add ons, and that's either because they don't have the money for the add ons or they're testing you out prior to putting more money into your services. No matter the situation, you need to treat every customer like they are the only person who has ever paid you, and you will see them coming back time and time again to purchase from you You could even have a more expensive service than your competitors, just like my writing services, and people will always come back if the work is high quality and you are friendly as well as responsive
