Everyone wants to boost their rankings so they can get high quality traffic that converts pretty well, but a lot of people focus on the wrong type of backlinks to do this. These people will see they can purchase 10,000 backlinks and get them placed overnight, and think "Oh man! This is a great deal!" but in reality it's just going to hurt your rankings. Usually these big backlink orders are just done by software, in fact, I would say that at least 99% of them are done using software and should likely be avoided.
Quality backlinks are the things of mystery, but they can be found if you search, so don't give up if you can't find them your first try. A quality backlink is something that is dofollow, related to your niche, and also comes from a website that already has hight authority. You can usually get one or two of those qualifications, but if you can get all 3 you're sitting pretty If you can replicate this, and get at least 2 of the 3 qualifications, you'll be able to boost your rankings every time. If you can get all 3, well then, you'll take over your niche sooner than later
In this discussion I'll be going over why quality backlinks beat a quantity of backlinks every single time, and that's because:
Massive low quality links don't equal a few high quality backlinks
Many times I come across the forum and blog posts talking about how they can build 100,000 backlinks and they're wondering how many high quality backlinks that would be. A ton of low quality doesn't compile to become XX high quality backlinks, it just doesn't work like that. The more low quality links you build, the more low quality your website will be seen in the eyes of Google. You can't leap frog high quality with a massive amount of low quality and think you're going to rank on top of the search results.
High quality backlinks are extremely powerful, low quality backlinks are not, and you will need to focus on keeping your website in the good graces of Google if you want to stay on top of the rankings or climb your way to the top.
Low quality backlinks are for low quality websites
If you start off building a massive amount of low quality backlinks, you'll just show Google that you're a low quality website. Low quality backlinks are for low quality websites, how many times have you seen a great website with a low quality backlink profile? Not very often, because it simply doesn't happen like that.
If you want your website to tip the scales as a power house, you need to search out high quality backlinks that people will actually see, not just the search engines. A bad site always have negative backlinks, that don't really relate to their pages, so try to avoid this at all costs.
High quality backlinks take time to obtain
A great backlink won't be something you can obtain overnight, you will need to build up your authority within a platform or on a blog before you can get your links to stick, and that's what all the good websites are trying to do. If you think "I don't have time to build all these great backlinks!" then you aren't cut out for SEO. A high quality backlink takes time to find, and even longer to build because you have to comments, post, and share numerous times on that specific platform before you're not seen as a spammer when you eventually do post the link to your website.
If you're trying to get a backlink from something like Forbes or Entrepreneur, you will need to become a writer and get noticed by one of their staff members. After that, you will hopefully get a journalist position and be able to post what you want as long as it's high quality content. When you get to this point, you have to publish dozens of articles before you even think about placing a link within the content, and that is what separates the patient from the impatient. If you can't take your time like this, you won't be able to get high quality backlinks for yourself. I'm not saying that you have to get links from Forbes or Entrepreneur.com, but if you're not willing to put in the time, you won't get top rankings like your competitors for dozens or hundreds of keywords.
Google wants authority websites within their rankings
To become an authority within Googles eyes, you need to be linked to other authorities within your industry, which will pass on authority to you. The only downside is that you need authority to get authority, which doesn't really mane much sense, but it's how the world works. Similar to a job, you need experience to get the job, but the job is how you're going to get the experience.
If you can catch a break every once in a while, you will be able to get links from authority websites, which will boost your own authority and Google will begin to increase your rankings because of it. Google will only show high authority websites within their rankings because they have proven to be the best, mainly because they've obtained plenty of high quality backlinks, which are like votes from strangers saying they're great. If you can become a high quality website, you will get your rankings boosted, and you will get all the traffic you desire
In conclusion
Building a massive amount of backlinks in a short amount of time is a fools game. No one in their right mind will build 100,000 backlinks over the course of a week or even overnight, so try not to do this with any of your websites. High quality backlinks aren't the easiest thing to get, so take your time and make sure you're seen as an authority before you try to place the links yourself. If you can eventually be seen as an authority by Google, they will boost your rankings and it will be easier to get even more links from industry leaders
