4 sales killing habits of a highly annoying website

We've all landed on these highly annoying websites, and we probably left almost immediately, but not me!  I like to stay on these websites to see all the funny stuff that is going to happen lol.  Usually you can tell these webmasters just read a book on how to increase their conversions and now they are implementing literally everything the book told them, and then some!

It's not difficult to set up a website today, but it is really easy to annoy people who eventually land on your pages because they were initial interested in something they read and clicked through to your pages.  They will then realized the mistake in their decision and either leave right away or get stuck on your pages, similar to how it's difficult to take your eyes away from a car crash!

In this discussion I'll be going over clear ways you can hurt your own sales, so try to avoid everything I talk about from now on within this discussion lol 4 sales killing habits of a highly annoying website

Constant pop ups
We've all landed on these websites in the past, and it's insane to think that people still think they work well for sales.  Remember back in the early 2,000's (yeah, I'm old) when you would get to a website and a bunch of ads would start to pop up?  Well, the website owner was making money from clicks on those ads as well as if someone would purchase after they clicked.  They were making money through affiliate sales and CPA clicks, which might not have been much, and that's why they hammered your screen with dozens of pop ups lol.

People still do this today, and it's actually difficult to find these websites, but they're out there!  I recently clicked on a banner ad I saw on a website where my own ad was located, and the advertised website was littered with at least 10 ads and it looked like the site was made when the internet went live 4 sales killing habits of a highly annoying website

Stop using ridiculous pop up ads on your website!  You can use 1, and that should only be your newsletter sign up form or a discount code to be used at check out!  4 sales killing habits of a highly annoying website

Every article is a sales pitch
This is actually really annoying, not as much as the constant pop ups, but still pretty annoying.  I see this almost every day when I'm searching websites, and what they'll do is write up detailed articles, but all of their content is a sales pitch.  They will write up something about their website, niche, service, or product and pitch their own services at the very end.  I'm on your website, I know what you're selling, so you don't have to pitch me every chance you get!

I see this all the time when I stumble across platforms like ezinearticles or something related, because people are trying to piggy back off of the authority of their domain, and make sales from their articles rankings within the search engines.  Well, since Google slapped the hell out of these content farms, not many of them are ranking I don't see these annoying pitches all the time lol.

Every link leads to a sales page
When you land on a website, you understand that they will likely interlink everything for better search engine rankings, but some do insane internal linking and only point to their sales pages.  It doesn't matter if they're talking about a different topic, they will link to their sales page, which doesn't really help them with their search engine rankings or sales.

I get it, they might think that if they get people to their sales pages then they will make more conversions, but that's not the case.  They're actually annoying their visitors and that means their traffic is leaving after just one or two clicks lol

The navigation is horrible
This is what I really don't understand, when I get to a website and the navigation is convoluted, do they really think they're doing a good job?  I've been to some websites that don't have a top navigation menu or a footer menu, it was like they expected me to know where I was going and how to search for everything I needed lol.

One of the biggest companies in the webmaster/website niche is GoDaddy, and they have garbage navigation in my honest opinion.  Not only is it bad, but it seems like they change it around every 4 to 6 months and make it just as confusing while moving things around.  It's like I get use to the annoying dashboard and then they throw their code up in the air and leave it where it falls.  I don't know why they make it so difficult to do things, but maybe it's a way to keep people from moving their domains lol.  If you get annoyed enough with a website that has your stuff on it, you'll like say "Screw this!  I'll do it later!" and then you forget about it and GoDaddy profits haha 4 sales killing habits of a highly annoying website

In conclusion
Stop putting up garbage websites that have dozens of pop ups, don't add articles that are just a sales pitch, don't link everything to a sales page, and be sure your navigation is tip top 4 sales killing habits of a highly annoying website  If you can do all of these, and not annoy your visitors, you will likely have a good website on your hands 4 sales killing habits of a highly annoying website

There are plenty of annoying websites out there. The thing I do not like is clicking on something of interest and then little stories keep you from getting to the bottom line. I don't want to watch a 45 minute movie, cartoons or graphics about the subject..just get to the point please!

I have gone to a website to check some items that looked interesting to me. But before I could find the prices, the article on the e-commerce site looks like a long blog that tried may patience. It is actually about a digital camera that I am looking for and I don’t know why the search list had included that link when I searched about the price and not the specifications of the camera.

I have read that spammy websites like the ones you are mentioning do not do well on the search results. Unless you apply the rel tag to the links the google bot will see the website as spam, and it could potentially get deindexed from their results.

I do not know who started the pop up advertising thing, but it is so very annoying. These days I mostly run into the pop up telling to me "Wait! Do not leave just yet! Enter your email address to stay up to date!". Of course I just close the pop up but some you can not close the pop up, and then if you try closing it, you will be prompted a javascript alert box confirming if you really want to leave, and if it is done right sometimes you can't close the tab so you will have to close the entire browser. Do not do this, this is shady marketing practices. People will not think your website is serious, and will probably never return to it, no matter the quality of information or services that you may provide.

Some do well, but the majority of these tank because they don't know what they're doing. Every website needs some time invested in it, and that's why these spammy websites tend to do worse than normal 4 sales killing habits of a highly annoying website

The pop-ups get really annoying, and yeah the majority of websites are now using the email capture pop up when someone tries to exit their website because it converts well. I've actually landed on some of these websites that screw up the javascript prompt, which locks up the page, and then I have to close the entire tab in order to continue. It's extremely annoying, and just like you, I never return because the problem rarely gets fixed.

My son used to have a job evaluating websites. The annoying popups and the difficult navigation are probably the two most common problems.

I'm a stickler for good navigation. I purchase a bunch of WordPress themes every year, and I won't use one that shows simple minded navigation on the pages lol. It's not difficult to set up a good navigation on WordPress, but if I don't have to do it myself, that's just some additional time I save that can be used for something else 4 sales killing habits of a highly annoying website

Thankfully I am not using any of these. I have tried pop up ads, however, when I noticed the drop in my traffic, I disabled the pop-up ads. my contents are informative, I try to promote related products, however, my contents are not sales pitches. Generally, in a 1000 word article, I will devote just around 50 words for one product, or never promote products.
I always try to make easy to use navigation. I use a header menu and organize my website content and features through the header menu.

You hit the nail on the head – that navigation thing is very important. I had visited one website that got me lost. How do I find the help and FAQ page? The main problem was that there were too many sub pages that you have to click 5 times before you can reach the desired topic. One other website could only go back by clicking the home page. Those websites with poor navigation is annoying and if you are a walk in, I’m sure you will not stay long. One web designer said that the first important element in the design is the navigation and having a broken link is a mortal sin.

Popups are the most annoying thing on a website for me. I don't get it why people think that by throwing something in my face that I am going to buy it. The second most annoying thing to me is when someone writes an article and blasts links all over the article to buy the product. I believe that one link to the product is good enough. And I also hate it when someone writes an article and they don't really know enough about the product so they wing it.

I agree with the pop up opinions. I remember years ago when I first started using the internet regularly pop ups became the bane of my and a lot of other peoples, existence. You'd land on a website and they'd just flood everything. It's gotten a lot better now, but I am not sure if that is because most browsers have developed higher quality pop up blockers, websites have switched from pop ups to more banner ad serving, or both.

I do understand these websites are trying to advertise their products and services but I must confess that the constant ad pop up is very annoying. It gets me so worked up at times that I would exit doing anything in such site for a while to cool off. Sometimes when I'm in a hurry to do some work and the pop up just run in and I accidentally click on it, it takes me away from what I'm trying to hurriedly finish thereby delaying my work time frame.

I agree. When I go to a website and there are trying to make a sale with the first sentence on the website, I quickly press the back arrow on the website and get out. The trick to sales in my opinion is that the customer needs to feel that they are getting valuable information from your website or they won't continue to visit. It's normally advised if you want to sell something, give valuable information to your customer first, so that they don't feel used or conned.
