Write the reason you're deleting this FAQ
We've all been on Facebook and have seen plenty of advertisements on our news feed whether it been in actual feed or off to the side. If you haven't seen any of these, you probably have a great ad blocker and should be sharing it with everyone here lol If you're like me, you usually don't worry about ads popping up because you have "banner blindness" and don't see them even if they are there lol.
Ads on Facebook are evolving, and it's not even a good evolution, because it seems that Facebook is letting almost everyone pay them for a placement. Sure, I get it, you want your website to get some traffic and possibly some sales, but it's starting to get pretty annoying when I see a bunch of crap (when my banner blindness isn't working) showing up in my news feed lol. I've written up this discussion because I've only gotten annoyed from the ads that are showing up every single day, and below are he main things I noticed.
Most of them are click-bait
Whenever I accidentally click on one of these ads, most of the time it's click-bait. I get sent to a registration form for something that wasn't even talked about in the ad itself. Think about it, if you click on something that promises you the stars, and then you get sent to a registration form, you're going to be pretty annoyed lol. I'm sure these advertisers get a decent amount of sign ups for the length of their advertisement, but to me it seems like this should be breaking the terms of service set by Facebook. I'm not sure how long these ads are live, maybe I'm the only one seeing them lol, but I feel like I see a few every month and it gets more annoying each time I click on these links on purpose or by accident lol.
Most of them don't fulfill promises
I've actually clicked on some of these links that promise certain things and they never fulfill these promises in the long run. Recently there was one ad that I saw which said "We write your content for free!" so I was intrigued and clicked. I then signed up for their services and quickly found out that I get 100 words of free content and then I have to pay $30 for every 500 words lmao
This could fall under clickbait as well, but it's not as bad since they actually gave me something even though I didn't redeem it. After I noticed this, I went back to the ad and commented "So I get 100 words of content and then I have to pay $30 for every 500 words? Shouldn't you change up your ad text so you're not offering empty promises? You're basically taking advantage of people who need help." I then noticed the either banned me from posting on their ad or they took the ad down completely lol
Most have "I've PM'd You" messages
This annoys the hell out of me. Most of the ads I see have the advertiser answering to questions with "PM sent" or some variation of that. When I see this I instantly think that they are just hiding information from the masses and they don't want their pricing to be seen or they're afraid to talk in public.
If I ask a question on an ad and I get the response "PM sent" I will screenshot the PM I received and paste it into the comment section of where I asked the initial question. I will then ask "Why couldn't you just answer me here where I asked? I'm sure a lot of people would like to know as well."
This could be happening because the company really does want to hide something or they just don't know what they're doing. They could also have a support system they're trying to refer people to, but if you do this, you will lose sales because people want to get answers to their questions where they asked the question.
Most of them use images that don't relate
This has been spreading like the plague across the internet. A lot of times you'll see a pretty woman or a stack of money that is only there to get your attention, and when you click through, the content doesn't relate to the image itself (also click-bait). This has started to show up even more than normal on Facebook, especially with all of the ads I see lol, and I could see a happy couple image for an SEO service or a beach front image for a business website ad. There is no text on these images either, just pictures that don't direct you in any sort of way.
I get it, you want people to imagine they are the people in your ad or you want them to imagine they're on that beach or exotic location in the image, but you'll likely get a better response if you use your image for what it's intended for lol.
Most of them are from pop up sites
I recently did a search and noticed that around 60% of the websites I see advertising on Facebook are relatively new. They may not be a day or two old, but they're definitely younger than 4 months lol. I know that many companies use Facebook when they're starting off because it's a great platform, but it can't be just me who is seeing all these random 1 page websites being pushed through Facebook lol.
This could just be people setting up websites and testing them out, but 60% of them? I checked 100 different websites and 60 of them were babies in terms of website age lol
In Conclusion
Facebook ads can be annoying, but in my case they are getting to be too much. It's likely due to my profile and everything I "like", and that would make perfect sense since people can target me based on my profile itself, which is a basic PPC trick that newbie advertisers would use. I just need to see how many people are actually seeing the same things I am lol
