A simple trick to increasing your client retention rate as a freelancer service provider

When it comes to freelancing and selling your skills as a service, you will need to do a lot of things in order to keep the client happy. There are the more obvious things like keeping up a good conversation with the client while you're working and submitting the work on time or actually earlier than the due date. There are also some other things that people don't think about and that's what I'm here to discuss. So many people focus on the best service they can offer, which is great, but they fall behind in certain things that will make your clientele come back time and time again.

What am I talking about?

You need to over deliver your work! Over delivering the work that has been agreed upon will show the client that you are dedicated to the job and you want to give them the best service possible. Clients love this because you're showing that you plan on breaking a few rules, in a good way, in order to help them out as much as possible. Some of the service providers here never over deliver their services and wonder why their clients never come back. They aren't coming back because another service provider they were testing out, the same time they ordered from you, may have done a similar job but they over delivered the work. You need to think of it this way, would you pay $10 for a 12 pack of pop/soda or would you rather pay $10 for a 12 pack of pop/soda and get a free 6 pack just for purchasing?

I recently started my own writing service here on Seocheckout and I've already had a couple clients with some more talking with me in PM's. I have a standard 500+ word article service for everyone to purchase, and I plan on over delivering on each order so I can build my loyal clientele quicker. Since I'm writing everything myself and not outsourcing, I have complete control on how much work goes into the job that was purchased from me. By over delivering my services, I am giving my clients a little surprise when I submit their order. Not only will they get a well researched and written article, but it's always longer than what they paid for A simple trick to increasing your client retention rate as a freelancer service provider '

I try to work with each content writing client that I have so they are the happiest they can be after I submit my work for them to view. I just started a writing service here on seocheckout, but I'm far from a new writer since I already have monthly clients from around the world who have been paying me for years to put together golden nuggets of content for their websites and/or blogs lol A simple trick to increasing your client retention rate as a freelancer service provider

After a while, maybe right away, you will notice that your clients are going to give you creative control on your services (especially with writing services). This shows that you've gained their trust and now you can write up whatever you want for their website or blog as long as it fits. Most of my clients are at this point since I've been working with them for so long, and I gained their trust early on by over delivering my services A simple trick to increasing your client retention rate as a freelancer service provider

When you over deliver your work, you need to really show it well. You can't have a 500 word article and do 525 words or have a 3,000 high quality backlink campaign and build 3,100 backlinks. You need to go above and beyond with your work in order for your clients to actually notice the extra time and effort you put in. If you're over delivering as a freelancer, you need to actually do it and not claim you are with an additional 25 words or 100 backlinks lol. I like to over deliver by 25% to 50% so it's easily noticeable. I will do this with my SEO clients as well as my writing clients so they can easily measure the amount of work that was added on at no extra charge A simple trick to increasing your client retention rate as a freelancer service provider

In Conclusion:
If you're not over delivering on the agreed upon work, you're just going to be losing clients to your competitors who are doing this. If you want to be seen as the best, work like you are the best and put in some extra time. Your clients will see the great work you've done and they will come back time and time again for more of your time and effort A simple trick to increasing your client retention rate as a freelancer service provider

I agree with all the points you made. Especially, delivering on what you say you will do. A provider needs to know they can trust you to do your work professionally and on time. You would want nothing less, so why should you provide nothing less for clients?

Consistency is one of the keys to ensure that your clients have that the best services. When they have that confidence of getting what they asked for on due time, then we can say that one is a good freelancer.

Yes, exactly, if someone is going to contract with you, they need to know that your services are going to be dependable and of suitable quality. You would want nothing less if you were the person who was contracting with others to provide services to and for you.

It is actually not just doing what you need to provide but it is better if you could provide more for the client. Just like the service they give in gas stations here when you fill up, you will be offered air for your tires or water for the radiator at no extra cost. Foreigners are surprised especially the Americans because they have not such service here. In fact, I know that the gas stations in the US are mostly self-service that you have to request service for a fee.

I try my best to provide an exceptional service to my customers and some of them keep coming back. I would have been glad if I would have been able to retain a maximum number of customers. I have been trying to retain customers by giving them discounts and through loyalty and referral programs. Maybe I need to implement other techniques.

No matter the techniques you decide to use, you have to understand that you can't retain all for some will always want to have a try elsewhere.

If you want to succeed as a freelancer, you need to remember a couple of things.
First of all, you need to have high quality service, for a fair price. If you over price, you are not getting any clients.
Secondly, when you get a client, you need to think about how to make him a recurring client. In order to make your client, a long-term client, you need to offer a good quality service, deliver your service before the deadline, and also give him recurring discounts or some kind of free service.

Having that quality is one of the best ways to keep the clients coming back especially when you offer them at a fair price that they can't get elsewhere. It's always good to keep the quality better at all times.

Whether you are an experienced freelancer or a newbie, it is always difficult to describe what the fair price is. I charge, $15 for 500 word SEO article and I think it is a fair price. My price is based on my experience, I have been writing since 2001 and SEO content since 2012. I have a lot of experience. However, there are people who are doing the same work for half of that amount and they say it is a fair price.

I think doing the suggestions in this post will really help a freelancer to get trusted by many clients. And they would be glad to recommend you to their friends. It is always the quality of service that a client could get to keep on collaborating with a freelancer. Under promise but over delivered will help you build your credibility with the clients to make them feel that you are working so hard to meet what they ask you to do and make them really satisfied. Thanks for continuously sharing your knowledge.

Recommendation is one of the desires of a any good freelancer and you can't get it unless you're doing the right things. That's where I found these tips to be good.

The best bet when it comes to delivery jobs and retaining the client or clients is to do an excellent job, nobody loves to be given any shabby job and even if that should happen such a client would never return. So doing one job and doing it perfectly well is the bedrock of having clients flock to one's domain

I ensure that I satisfy my clients to the best I can do in delivering better and accurate services to them. It's always that better when we, as freelancers, try to keep our clients happy.

I agree delivering is the key. And that has to be done properly. That's the only way to deal with this. I have seen that some of the time people who are into providing business, should be taking care of the customer queries too. They need to know what you're selling to them. And how that is going to help their business or the task in the hand. There you can see that this will definitely make the clients to retain you. But it takes time for those things to settle properly.

You should know what your customer wants. In most cases, the customer wants some incentives. The incentive can come as discounts or freebies. All of us love freebies, If you are doing 8K ebook for a client, the client will love if you do 1k words more and make it 9k ebook. Since the client got 1k words for free, he is likely to return to you with another project.

It's hard to know usually. For example I have just one page work on fiverr for translation. And the due date is 30 days. For first 10 days client is not even responding. So you can guess that it's kind of hard on fiverr to get things done. I guess it all depends on the clients pattern. Not all clients behave the same way.

I have not worked on Fiverr, however, I have experience with working on numerous freelancing sites. It is difficult to predict the client. Recently, the client asked me to develop comments on "How to develop seedling indoor" I wrote the article and submitted. Then he wrote back, "Your work is good but I wanted to focus on growing seeling indoor and planting them outdoors." The client never said this when he commissioned the job.

Yes. It is some of the time can be complicated. And the issue is clients assume that they are hiring someone they think can do some jobs they have in mind. But they don't write about what they want out of the gig. So that's something you can see worth thinking about. I'd be surely be wary of the client retention in this case. It's kind of hit and miss game.

If I had told the client that he did not describe his service properly, the client would have refused to work with me again (generally speaking, many people do not like when their mistakes are pointed out). I tweaked the article and submitted again. He was happy and gave me another writing job. Following what the clients want is one of the ways to retain the client.

Yes that's true. And freelancers meet many of those on daily basis. I guess we just have to find the middle way out most of the time. Apart from that this is more or less luck thing. And requires a lot of patience in due time.

I also believe that luck plays very important role. On upwork, it took me six months to get the first job. However, the first job I got on upwork was a high paying job. Some of my clients on upworks were high profile people and companies. Even on Seocheckout, it took me around six months to make my first sale.

This is true. Lot of people have bad luck with the clients. And very few of them get good clients. And I wonder how the Seocheckout based gigs are possible. I have heard some bad stories from the seocheckout. It can be really hard to make use of such type of the content providers.

If you want to succeed as a freelancer, you need to have a long term client. It does not matter whether the client provides high paying job or low paying job, what matters is you regularly get jobs and money comes easily. Having a regular low paying job is better than having a high paying one time job. However, changing one time client to a long time client is very difficult.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I agree. Some level of regular income definitely helps. So that way the money keeps on coming. And people can see that retention is lot easier. I am not sure I think for regular income one has to be find consistent income. That's how it works.

I had the experience of co-blogging as a regular contributor. At first, I was asked to submit a blog with a minimum of 2 pages in the word document. But since I was very enthusiastic, the blogs I submitted were 3 pages or more. The blogger was happy with it and was even surprised that I was willing to write a longer blog. That is the over delivering that I think is meant with the word. But aside from the length, I was also submitting my blogs in advance so the blogger was again happy with that.
