Do you reward donations?

A lot of forums have these added benefits that they offer when you donate to them and these benefits increase depending on the amount that your donation is. Do you think that this is an effective way to get donations and make money for the forum? The problem I find with this is, can you really consider it a donation? Because even though it is voluntary, are the users giving you the money to help you with the forum or to have a really cool username colour? Do you give out added benefits to your donating members? What kind of benefits do you have?

I think some of the time forums have this marketplace and the services which you can buy. And buying from such place also helps the forum. And in some cases you can donate directly asking the admin. You can also donate the individual person. And that also helps in that context. I have found that patreon seems to be something that people are tying these days. So that is going to be a good earning source in near future. I may end up using it for sure if I can get my hands on the system. Not sure how many people donate though.

Some forums do have services but those are more only really webmaster and promotion forums. And most of the time these services can be bought using virtual forum currency. I don't think I have come across any forums that sell services for money, to be honest. Marketplaces don't tend to benefit the forum, to be honest. Most of the time the transactions are between the users so the forum won't get any money out of it.

I agree on that point. But in this case the only solution would be asking the forum owner for the advertising banner or say patreon. The advertising banner often helps the forum generate the revenue. And it may earn them some money. But if they dont' want ads then that could be one problem. In such case patreon seems to be one issue. So that needs to be handled as well.

I have never even given my readers a chance to donate, haha. I just didn't feel the need to yet but I guess it's something that's very easily implemented. But if I did have the option to receive the donations then yes, I would definitely also provide some sort of small rewards for them. I think that it's fair considering that the person is literally giving you his/her money without any reason but to support you or your cause.

I have seen many forums that do what you've described - give the donators some sort of forum perks such as colored names, different titles, links in the signature and more. I still consider it as a donation but it's just a clever way to sort of "persuade" people to consider donating faster.

Well, i have never come across any site or forum that offers added benefits for people who donate to them. And my site although they are no donation options, but if i may add that in future, depending on the state of things. Your donations will be between me and you, nothing more, nothing else. And i don't think anybody will be donating just to get their name colored or some funny stuffs added to your profile. To me it sounds funny and childish.
But if you feel it's a way to appreciate your donators, well it's cool.

I have a donation button on my forum but no one has really donated to it. ANd if they did donate to it, that's all it would be is a donation. I wouldn't give them anything because then you're going from a donation to a service and they may ask for a refund.

P.S. I did have a donation on one of my bigger forums that I had and I only received 1 donation. Has anyone else received a lot of donations or a donation period?

I have received rewards for every project I have backed thus far. Sometimes others have run into issues where they have not received their rewards several years after a campaign has successfully funded. Creators ultimately make the timeline for delivering rewards though. The best thing to do as a creator, in my opinion, is to under promise and then over deliver.

On my old blog I had a donate button, but I don;t think anyone every donated. I did have referral link for a website that people clicked on and I got ad revenue from that, but not really familiar with rewarding people who donate..since I don't think I ever got any!

Well, I think donation is what it implies donations nothing else.A donor is doing a favor to the forum,so I don't think they're expecting any reward in return.I think it just a means of helping to maintain the forum.

I have donate button on the youtube. And not a single person in 2 years have donated. People are quick to downvote and lecture you on channel. But when it comes to donation they give you big knowledge on what they can do to improve channgel. So I think donation system does not work. And instead paid courses is what works the most for many people. I personally think that donation is not the right way to do the blogging. Not atleast yet currently for many people this may not work.

I think a great reward for members who donate to your forum or website is a free t-shirt or some sort of official site-branded apparel. It's a win-win. They get a reward for their generosity, and you get free advertising for the brand.

My husband had contributed money to one local forum when it was short on finances. But the forum admin did not give any reward except to mention the name of the donors in one board. I think that is enough reward because a simple acknowledgment will go a long way when the thread remains in a sticky state on the board. But for big donors I guess the forum should give more rewards.
