Back in the early 2000's I believed in the if you build it they will come mentality and I made a attempt at a portfolio and in the end it was a ton of work to maintain. It was 5 different websites that was making around $25 a month. And when I say a lot of work I was putting around 50~60hrs a week into 5 different websites. So that equaled out to $2.25 per hour for all my efforts.
I ended up shutting down all the websites because I was overwhelmed. And my new approach is just to focus on a single website and grow it to the best of my abilities and go from there. How about you? Do you have a portfolio? If so how is it working out for you?

I still keep my portfolio up to date in case I want to send in a bid for a freelance job. Better safe than sorry, and I've got the resources to have one, so I might as well maintain it! As a videographer and photography, it's incredibly important for me to have a portfolio. Being that I deal is such a visual medium, my clients naturally want to see what kind of product I'm able to create before they decide if I'm the right one for the job or not. Overall, my portfolio has worked very well for me. While I was in the full swing of freelancing, I was booking people very regularly. It wouldn't be odd for me to have something booked every weekend of a month sometimes. I still keep my portfolio up to date in case I want to send in a bid for a freelance job.
