Have you ever revamped or restarted an old blog?

I did but not because I lost interest or it's getting dead, but simply because there was a problem with my email on that blog and I couldn't access to it anymore. I have contacted support but they too can't help for whatever reason, which I already forgot because this happened a long time ago. So I decided to make another one instead.

I guess there are different reasons why we may not continue with a blog. It may not be a matter of losing interest in it, but having some other question or problem that does not get resolved. Maybe if you go back to it after a time you will find that it is resolved!

A blogger who invited me to be a guest blogger a long time ago had abandoned his blog because he got a permanent job that took away almost all his spare time. The blog is still in Blogger and probably not getting any traffic now since the Adsense had changed the rate of revenue sharing that the earnings was cut down to 50%. Some other reasons for discontinuing a blog aside from lack of time may be loss of interest for the niche.

I am actually currently in the process of slowly reopening my old blog. I used to be active on it and had a decent rate of the daily traffic BUT I started doing other things and I stopped blogging regularly. It just took a lot of time to constantly push out the posts and I decided to leave it for a while. Recently, my interest got sparked again and I'm really considering to simply reopen it. It shouldn't be that hard since I still have the accounts on social media all set up.

I don't think it is that hard, but experts recommend having a number of posts ready to go before you start blogging again. It just makes things easier when you are trying to rejuevenate and old blog. Also, I think letting you regular viewers know your blog is restarting is a good thing to do.

I have couple of blogs that are stagnant. They get so little traffic and engagements. I have also not updated or promoted these blogs since a long time. I am thinking to revamp and restart these blogs that they will again come back to life. When I do revamp I will not delete my old posts, but update these posts and also add fresh contents. I will start sharing the blog entries on social media.

I know one of my blogs at one time Google estimated it to have about 700.00 of value. I mean that might not be much to some, but it was pretty good money as far as I was concerned. However, now all the information is outdated. If I did restart it, I would need all new content, as it has not been updated in several years.

I have to recipe blogs at blogger dot com. These blogs had been stagnant for many years after I was so focused on Literacybase and Blogjob. Even though, these sites went down, I am still busy at other sites that I had almost forgotten about my own blogs. I planned to revamp them soon. I need to remove all the outdated links and information. Had to revamp the old posts with new pictures and data . Add in new URL link posts from my other articles at other sites. Lots of things to be done, one step at a time.

Yes, I understand. Sometimes it is hard to find the time to look at all the things we need to do in order to make our blog competitive again. It can take longer than we originally anticipate when we try to restart a blog that is no longer relevant, or doesn't work anymore.

My beauty blog has been gathering dust but still get emails from some visitors asking for updates, that the like my contents.I had to restart the blog and so to be motivated I had to look for a way to monetize it, this way I would not relent in posting and updating.To restart a blog do the following:

Monetize if you haven't
Grow passion for the content
Write on what excite you
Make the blog interactive

Good point Augusta, but hopefully we are already passionate and excited about what we are writing or blogging about. Most blogs should have a place for comments, and so forth, but do you mean interaction that goes beyond that? There are a few things we could do to make it interactive I think.

I have few blogs which I am going to post on this year. And hoping that I can get some traffic. There are some of the posts which I need to post on regular basis. And hoping that this may bring back the traffic on those sites. So far not much content is created. So this can be a problem for me. I need to create content and take it to the people. Hopefully that will solve the problem.

I did. I had a couple of niche blogs that lost a lot of traffic due to the subject becoming pretty much obsolete, so I pivoted to a similar idea but with a new layout and a different way of writing my posts. It worked brilliantly!

Yes, one idea is possibly changing my old blog to a different format. I could experiment with my old blog and put it on wordpress for a new look and feel. I really think I need to delete a lot of the old posts though since the information is no longer relevant. I wonder how easy the transition from Blogger to Wordpress can be obtained.

A friend's blog is stagnating for 2 years now. I advised him to revive his blog or to create a new one just like that, in the same genre, to give it a semblance of a new image. But he prefers to just revive it because his blog used to get a good number of hits. However, the reason why it stagnated was for lack of time. It is a science fiction blog that contains original stories. The problem is the lack of time but he's got a lot of story materials. Personally, I suspect that he had lost interest because of the meager earnings from his blog. It earns via Adsense.

Yes, I mean if your primary goal is to earn money via Adsense or some other medium, it is very difficult to earn on a blog and keep your earnings up. I can understand why your friend might have gotten discouraged and might be looking to restart his blog. Maybe he might want to try turning his blog into an ebook of some sort.

kgord mentioned having a number of posts ready before restarting an old blog. I agree with this. May I also add that you should start getting in touch with your target audience via trade and industry associations as well as Facebook groups and fan pages.

I have a blog but can't really attract much viewers. The problem is that I am not devoting as much time as I should to my blog. I post only once or twice a week. I advertised my blog on Facebook. I created a Facebook page and my friends helped me by sharing my FB page with others. Nowadays there are many tutorials available online about blogging. I have learnt so much from those tutorials.

I hear that Pixie, some of us are more concerned with other things, and just blog as we are able, so it kind of gets left on the backburner sometimes. I just wish I could devote more time to it, but there are reasons I can't write now.

I have definitely revamped my blogs the more that I have learned about getting traffic to them and through more experience in blogging in general. When I first started, I was just looking for an audience for my work, but now, I am looking for a market for my work as well, and so my blogs had to be vastly improved with different goals in mind.

I think that it is something that all bloggers might have to contend with from time to time. Even if you don't totally redo your blog, you may need to add fresh content or a new look to an older blog. It keeps things interesting for readers and viewers.

Well sort of, I had a minecraft server blog and I let it die for 6 months and then I started blogging again for 3 months and then I realized that I wanted to take it into a new direction. So I went ahead and I made a new blog/forum and then I imported all of the important blog posts and pictures into my new blog/forum and then I deleted the old one.

Although I am active on the new blog, its super hard to keep up. I have a busy life and I said to my readers that I would make new posts every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and it's been super hard to maintain. Because I have a busy life and I spend a lot of time with my wife, who I love very much.

Well, my blog wasn't exactly dead. It's just old.

But it needed a lot of work and re-working. Thanks to Facebook memories for indirectly directing me back to my old blog. For a few years, I had been sharing my posts to my timeline. Now I click on my Facebook memories each day and it shows me old posts that I shared. Some of the content is evergreen, so I update it, fix any broken links, update the tags, and might even change the post title and tweak all things to make the blog more SEO-friendly. There are lots of things I've learned through trial and error that I did not know a few years ago. In this way, I sort of resurrect my old blog content. When I update the post, I post them again to my Facebook timeline and other social media accounts (Google Plus, Twitter, Tumblr, LinkedIn, etc.)

My first blog was about making money online and it had alot of bells and whistles, but the sites I was writing about then I no longer use, and some of them aren't even around anymore so it is definitely not relevant. I could probably change it up and add new relevant content, but I don't know if I am up for the challenge honestly
