How Do You Market Yourself on Social Media?

Social media is an ever changing world, and businesses are still developing new ways to market themselves on the various platforms available. You don't have to share your secrets to success on marketing necessarily, but I'd love to hear what methods you use to promote yourself or your business and how effective those methods are. Do you monetize your YouTube videos? Do you promote your posts on Twitter or buy Facebook ads?

I've found that Facebook ads are really quite cost effective for the reach they get, and the $15 or $15 I've spent on them has garnered me a good amount of traffic to my business page. No confirmed sales as of yet, but more traffic is always good!

Market your self on social media networks is mainly done by branding yourself, making good connection (like follow / followers) in same and similar niches so you building your trust in order to boost your online influence. This takes time and doesn't come over night, but as more time you invest in marketing yourself, more you get in return. So patience and right strategy is all you need to succeed

My take on the good connections is the engagement and your reactions to the posts of your connections. One freelancer said that it is good to tap your thousands of friends in Facebook for marketing your business and you can do it without even doing anything. I said that you need to be an established “friend” in Facebook before your friends there will react on your posts otherwise your promotional posts may just be tagged as spam.

For you to market yourself you have to follow this steps:

1. Friend and follow people who you think would make great professional contacts.
2. Separate your personal and professional profiles .
3. You have to be respectful.
4. Just because someone isn’t commenting, liking, re tweeting, or doesn’t mean they aren’t paying attention.
5. If the artwork you make features nudity of any kind, post a censored version of it.

Social networking sites do not offer a captive audience to which you can broadcast information about your company at will. The goal is to share useful and informative information with your network or community, then when they want to know more about you, they can head to your website. Social networking is about listening to what the community wants, sharing information, advice, or other content of value, and being available to keep the promises you've made to your customers. Your activity on the many social sites serves to increase awareness of your company and your brand, and encourages people to refer to your primary website or blog, where the real sales pitch is.

Do you actually make posts on your professional profile to promote your business? I was thinking of applying that strategy. Seems reasonable to once you add people that you think might b interested in the content of your website yes?

I would advise that if you can make posts on your professional profile, you should definitely do it. It's one thing for people to like or follow your page, but you want those people to keep seeing things about your services. If people regularly see posts about your business or service, they'll be more likely to remember you the next time they are in need of services similar to yours.

Follow everyone I can which I know will be interested in the subject I'm writing about. For example I would go to someone's instagram page which has a similar theme as me and follow the people that follow them knowing that they will follow back since they are already interested in that niche

The "follow back" culture on social media is a powerful concept for marketing purposes. I work for a small college and we've been focusing more intensely on social media and how to grow our followers. We put a student in charge of Instagram and asked her to follow all of the incoming and potential students for this coming fall, and a majority of them followed our college page back. We've seen nearly a 100% increase in followers which is phenomenal for us!

There was a time when I marketed myself as a writer and author. I promoted my books and articles through social media. I tried to establish my brand as a writer and author on various social media sites. I even created facebook fan pages, I had a facebook page for my book as well as author page.
These days, I am trying to establish myself as an internet marketer. I have created facebook pages from my websites.
In order to market yourself on social media, you must have accounts on various social media sites, you must build a large following on each platforms and share your works regularly.

A very key factor when it comes to marketing is the audience, a market base. Without the targeted audience marketing is useless. Social media have changed marketing approach greatly. And the best way to explore the great marketing opportunity that social media provide is to have good social media presence. But presence is not enough as having contents. You need to give the audience contents to make them come back after and after. Contents is the key, audio this require some little effort and patience.

Good points! And on top of keeping content relevant, when marketing yourself through ads on social media, a lot of the platforms make it really easy to connect with the audience that you want. For instance, I run a wedding videography service, so my main demographic will be either males or females in the area of 20 to 30 years old. Facebook makes it easy to target people within a certain radius of my business that meet my preferred demographic.

Handling different topic and the options can help you market yourself on social media. As you can see social media market is one sided for some established people. You have to reach out to people and based on their options you can make content. I know some who are handling different type of the content related projects. And they are making some good decisions based on that. That's how I have learned about it.

Hi there thanks for your question. I am going to say how I do myself. Specially I use Facebook for promote my business on internet. Than I prefer twitter and YouTube. Strategy is different for each social network. For example: For Facebook promotion, I made niche base fan page and group too. Than I added my product there and try to proactive for attract or support all fan and group user. I made many fans and group member for my niche base fan and I try to make update each day with new post. it is meaning that I am at least showing pro active. Beside, boosting post on Facebook another effective way to get targeted customer. Besides, I tried to use twitter for promote my brand by tweet. And not bad at all for getting good response. And YouTube another superb way for attracting customer for any product by creating a good channel with informative.

I agree strategy is definitely different for each social network. Explainer videos work on youtube a lot. So for your business that can be one good option. In case of the twitter, you'd have to find if there are any influencer who can retweet your stuff. And for facebook, you have to keep experimenting on what works and what does not work.

The interaction works best for me. Joining communities and being a part of their group and eventually, they get to know you better and what you do. It does the trick for me, but it's going to be slow at first especially if you're new to a certain community. It took me a while, but the results were worth it as I was constantly making a name for myself there.

I signed up for free automated posting service like BufferApp and use them to post to Google Plus and Twitter. Because my Twitter account is linked to my Facebook, all my tweets appear as status updates to my Facebook profile or business page. I have also experimented with services like IFTTT which automate posting to my LinkedIn and Tumblr accounts. I tried a Facebook ad once for $10, but it was not effective for me. That's not to say it won't work for others. I use the free plans for the automated posting. I could probably get a lot further if I could afford the upgraded plans.

You may want to include the Facebook group into this. The reason being the groups have more people who can convert for your service. Make sure that group rules allow this. I have found that in that case social media definitely plays a big role. You can see that some of the social media accounts are definitely worth checking out. Even instagram is good but you can't automate it.

You can include Facebook groups? I only use my profile or my business page. But I don't want to be accused of spamming the groups. I'll have to look into it. Thanks for the tip!

I have some friends in Facebook who are into business. They post about their business every day and sometimes they make up to 10 posts which is already irritating. Most of them are into dropshipping where they act as broker or agent for clothing items and beauty products. They earn by commission basis. However, some of them are complaining that they were unfriended (by their real friends) because of their regular promotion of their business. That keeps me thinking. @Kharyode is right with that line - separate business and personal profile. I myself have the propensity to unfollow or even unfriend those who are posting excessively of advertisements in Facebook.

Depending on the venture, blog, project, or publication I am working on online, I use a variety or combination of ways to self-promote. I definitely use facebook and twitter on a regular basis. I also randomly pick, from my contacts and "friends" online, a few people a day to share a link with. Most of the time, they do not mind, and this throws up a flag here and there and is a little less obtrusive than mass bomb emailing and sharing.

If you want to market yourself on social media, the first goal you got to have is branding yourself. Make your name and what you do something people can feel familiar about. Be yourself. It is easier to use the pattern of another social media stars but nothing will work better for you than creating your own concept. It might change your life and help other people too. Share who you are and what you do, but with quality. Content's (text, photos, videos) quality standars are nowadays very demanding on social media.
