Star Wars vs Star Trek

Star Trek is a sophisticated and engagingly logical version of the future; Star Wars is utterly nonsensical and more fantasy than science fiction revolving around a god-like force that supports a terrorist organization featuring psychotic clergymen. It insistently refuses to add real peril by just saying "the force is with them." The entire premise is one of simplicity designed to provide a brief escape which it fails to do, the universe is never present in the films, the action is unexciting, and there are no characters.

I enjoy both, but prefer Star Trek to Star Wars, because I love the adventure and moral quandries.

I personally never saw the appeal in either of this franchise. I even prefer watching things like Harry Potter over this. I know that they have a huge fanbase but I haven't seen a single movie in its full length. I tried hut it just wasn't my sort of thing.

But I, of course, respect everybody's taste and I don't really try to force my opinion on anybody else

That's funny. I kind of agree. I don't hate any of those two. But I prefer other movies because they're not my favorite genre. Though, I get how others might come to love it. Most people love the mixture between adventure and some sort of powerful source of power.

I love Star Trek just because I’m an explorer at heart and with the star wars universe it seems like there isn’t all that much left to be explored there are just new battles to fight. Thank you, both for your answers!

Star Trek is part of our history since it was popular when I was still a girl that the mention of Star Trek sparks the moments of my childhood. Who would forget the man with the long ears named Spock? I was actually not a big fan of Star Trek but my brothers were and they will save money just to see the movie. I think there is still a rerun of the old Star Trek in a cable channel.

I love both. Im a sci-fi movie fanatic. Those two movies are actually the reason why scifie movies of today are into perfection. They have generated inspiration to all movie makers and aspirant to as good at the makera of those movies. Some visual effects use by those two movies are still in used up until today. I guess laser beams will continue to be a thing through the years to come. It seems like you can't have a space battle without some sort of energy beam shooting somewhere. It seems mandatory for them to have that.

Here is an interesting link: 10 Reasons Why Star Trek is Better Than Star Wars. Maybe you'll find the article useful. I don't know why anybody bothers to contrast and compare Star Trek to Star Wars. But that's probably because I'm from the original Star Trek generation. It was groundbreaking not just as a sci-fi show but because of the diversity of its cast members. I was a loyal viewer of the show that introduced me to the handsome Captain Kirk and the logical Dr. Spock with the pointed ears and that cool way of greeting people with his fingers shaped like a "V".

Well, I guess there are so may topics about this subject because these two movies shaped generations of viewers, and created long debates and separated opinions in two!

Personally, I never had much interest in Star Trek. So I do prefer Star Wars, even though I'm a more recent fan. In general, I prefer franchises like Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. But I loved Star Wars, I guess I loved the fantasy aspect of it.

Maybe we're part of the people who likes lots of movie franchise. We're not limited to just a single genre. So I'd have to agree. I like Star Wars but I've also watched Harry Potter.

Star Wars for me, although I do respect Star Trek. But for me, the main thing I liked about Star Wars is the lore and the melee fights, I'm not much into spaceship battles which is why I'm not much into Star Trek. The lore in Star Wars is so vast, even in the comics. There are several Darths that have yet to make a movie appearance, and most of them are my favorites.

See, the problem lies in the fact that you're comparing films that come from different genres, just happen to take place in space. Criticizing Star Wars for being nonsensical and more fantasy than fiction is like watching Harry Potter and saying "Why is there magic in this fantasy movie?! This is totally unrealistic!"

That is the whole point. Star Wars was never a realistic science fiction series, it was always a fantasy. Why do you think people were upset with the prequels when they began introducing a bunch of boring politics? We watch Star Wars for lightsaber battles and magic hand lightning, not senate hearings.

If I wanted politics and dialogue I'd watch Star Trek. And that's why I don't watch Star Trek.

I enjoy watching Star Trek. The story was just simple and can easily understand whoever who watch it unlike Star Wars making things complicated and unrealistic. Even my family and friend most likely watch Star Trek rather than Star Wars. You can easily show what you want to impose in a simple way or simple story doesn't make it too complex to the extent that the audience doesn't understand the story anymore. I believe and other people too that the simpler the better.

I completely enjoy both of these sagas. I enjoy Star Wars for the family dynasty issues regarding the Force, and its Cycle of the Hero, Jungian type unfolding, but I love Star Trek for the more philosophical debates in terms of the human condition and ethical issues.

I like both, they are master pieces of sci-fi, zillions of viewers and followers since they appeared. Each one is amazing for their stories, their fans, the characters and actors that have played them. I'm sorry but I can't choose one, I love the adventure of "space the final frontier" and the drama of "the force be with you". The best part of them, is the memories they have made for me, my dad is a fan, he taught me about them, we used to watch them together, so is like a generation to generation legacy. I hope someday watch them with my own legacy too.

I love both Star Trek and Star Wars. Both have well developed worlds, cultures and histories. I think that the Star Wars story is more straightforward while Star Trek is always more on new discoveries. Star Wars have more iconic characters in total though as the movies are more eye-catching for the audience.

The thing is that I think this was done very intentionally on the part of George Lucas and his crew. While he didn't outwardly admit it, it is an unwritten idea that the Star Wars films were basically made to sell toys and action figures. The prequels in particular are said to only have existed because they wanted to start a new line of Star Wars toys and merchandise. This is particularly evident by the fact that the target demographic for the prequels was clearly younger than that of the original trilogy. That being said, they're all still wonderful films though.

I'm not much for science fiction but I have to admit that I liked Star Wars, the original version. I really think that the 2 robots are cute - r2d2 and 3cpo. And although the story is in the far future, Pricess Leia is a captivating character. I don't remember Star Trek except for the pointed ears of Dr. Spock because I was a small girl during its time.

I agree that you can't compare the two. Isn't Star Wars inspired by Star Trek?I like Star Trek because I used to watch the series as a little girl. I loved it I loved the fact that they used to go from one frontier to another. I loved the politics and the romance. So I never really followed star wars because I had my fill of the galaxy long before it was produced. I think star wars is more modern and is good for small kids.
