Should you be using free backlink checkers?

When it comes to checking your backlinks, a lot of us will gravitate towards free backlink checkers.  Now this is a good and bad thing when it comes to checking backlinks because of a few reasons that I will list below.

Using a backlink checker basically means you're trying to see what has already been indexed by Google, Yahoo! or Bing because you've done some backlinking or wanted to see if anyone has started linking to you.  By checking what backlinks a free backlink checker is spitting out, you are seeing what type of links are being indexed by the search engines.  You can also use these free services to sort of spy on your competitors Should you be using free backlink checkers?

Why you should use free backlink checkers
If you don't have much money then using a free backlink checker will save you a decent amount of money each month.  Some backlink checking services charge upwards of $300 a month for what they do, which is insane.  They can usually charge this much because they have a load of other services other than backlink checking, so a lot of people will purchase a monthly subscription since it's usually worth it if you have a service that works with a good amount of clients Should you be using free backlink checkers?

Free backlink checkers are a good way to search your competitors to get an idea of what they're currently doing, and have already done, when it comes to their backlinking.

The downside of free backlink checkers
The main downside of one of these services is that you're limited when it comes to how many results you will get.  Usually you can see the first 1,000 links that are indexed for a website and that's it.  It's like a teaser service sometimes, but on the other hand you may not need to seem more than 1,000 so a free service might be all you need Should you be using free backlink checkers?  These services don't usually update very often either.  They will run a scan of your links through whatever service they use, and that's all that will show up for you the next time you run it.  That is if you're at the 1,000 backlink limit.  If you have less than 1,000 links then it will keep updating until you hit the limit Should you be using free backlink checkers?

Backlink checkers are accurate, sort of
When it comes to checking your backlinks through a free checker, they're usually accurate but they will only show you what is already indexed.  If you get a backlink service done for your website, you won't see the thousands of links in the checker because they all won't get indexed.  I've actually had plenty of clients contact me because they didn't see their links showing up on a website like Alexa and I had to tell them that these free checkers aren't always they best ways to check if the work has been done.  What they should do is run their links through a service like linkcheckpro.com in order to see how many links are in the report.  The website will show you how many links are live, broken, nofollow, dofollow, etc. which is awesome for SEO reports Should you be using free backlink checkers?

In Conclusion:
Free backlink checkers are great tools to use if you're just starting out.  You won't have to invest any money into them, usually, since you won't have many links indexed.  You will be able to see what's being indexed and then you will see what the search engines are taking a liking to, and then you can duplicate that work Should you be using free backlink checkers?  They aren't the most accurate services because they can only see indexed links, so you'll have to use other websites like linkcheckpro.com to see what links are in the reports you get from your SEO service purchases Should you be using free backlink checkers?

I tend to think some people become overly obsessed with backlinks. Good content combined with good website marketing will attract backlinks organically. Spending a whole lot of time and money monitoring their growth can have you taking your eye off the ball. Popular, reliable, and valuable content will earn backlinks over time.

I agree. I don't bother with backlinks to much because I just don't think it is as effective as it used to me. A few years ago, backlinks would probably have been high up on my list of things to focus on but nowadays things like content, marketing and appearance are much more important.

I agree. If Google thinks they are in anyway dubious, you will likely get penalized. I think it is much better to allow inbound links to come naturally. But, that is just my personal opinion.

Completely agree with you. While it's a good idea to keep tabs on how you're doing, there's no need to sink in hundreds upon hundreds of dollars to that stuff. That said, the free stuff is obviously not up-to-par compared to paid options, but you can always use something like Ahrefs to get a plan fitting your personal needs!

Yes, using free backlink checkers helps a lot in tracking traffic statistics and monitoring potential customers to ensure they keep coming back to your site. The checker is one of the tools used for doing search engine optimization tasks for a website. With this free tool, you can check daily to know how many back links you are able to generate to your blog or website.

Content is the most important thing, at least in my opinion. So, it's a good decision to give it most of your time. But regardless, backlinks are extremely helpful when it comes to raising the numbers of your traffic and visitors so you should definitely consider at least trying it.

You are the same as me augusta. I think I focus a bit too much on the actual content of my blog compared to the search engine optimisation side of blogs which isn't the worst thing to be fair. But it's important to take some time aside to concentrate on SEO as well

This post is so useful because I remember a few months ago, I was wondering exactly what you answered - are free backlink tools truly effective and if I should use them or not. The main reason for me wanting to use the free options was obviously money. As you have mentioned, the paid tools can be extremely expensive especially if you are just starting out. You don't want to spend hundreds of dollars right off the bat.

I have previously used free backlink checkers and I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised by their accuracy and quality, they're not bad at all.

I have used them for most of the projects. And you can export the report as well. So for basic clients work it can be good enough. I would however consider that there are not many options as well. I personally think that backlink checkers require payment. And they can then deep scan for more links. I guess DA ranking is also on that basis. Moz seems to be the one good at both DA checking and the backlink checking.

I think you should invest in purchasing a backlink checker over using a free one. But - I also believe that you need to accumulate a certain number of backlinks first, before using a checker. A checker 'checks' for a reason. If you just have 3 or 4 backlinks to your sites name, might want to wait until that library gets much larger with 3 or 4 years of heavy backlink work. Then your investment in a paid backlink checker won't feel like such a waste of money.

I think not everyone needs to purchase one. Because not everybody is doing any site or the product that needs to be properly checked for links every single day. So that's something investment. And I guess only the people who deal with SEO in everyday time are going to make use of that. So it's not meant for all the people. So free tool such as that is good enough for time being. That;s what I think.

Very true. Also your adsense profits and e-commerce success will give you a rough estimate of how well you're doing in terms of traffic and sales. You can then use that as a guess or estimate to how well your backlinks are doing and whether they're expanding or not.

Yes. I think that's what stops me from using the paid services during initial period. My adsense does not earn me 600$ per month. So unless it pays that much I can't subscribe to paid services. And that in itself can make things a bit harder to consider as well.

I didn't actually know there was such a thing as backlink checkers but I think they are some great ideas and ideas that everyone should take advantage of and utilize for themselves. A free tool to check links seems like it should work.

I have never used paid backlink checker because I cannot pay for the subscription. I have always used free backlink checker and I am happy with the service I get with the free tool. However, my question is is the free backlink checker as reliable as the paid version,

I mean if you can get something for free why not go for it? It is not going to hurt, and could conceivably help your blog so I think it would be a good thing to do. Most people seem to like to utilize these to make themselves some money. I think it is a good thing to get anything for free really.

I don't think free services work in this case because as my experience only some free tools can give you exact results as ahref, semrush. The best free service came from Google, it is Google webmaster tool. Other than that, I don't believe in free backlink checker tools.

I am being honest when I admit that I am terribly confused with backlinks. First issue for me is the no-follow and do-follow links that we should know when posting backlinks on a site because a no-follow link is ignored by search engines. Second issue is the quality backlinks and bad backlinks. Maybe I need to learn more by sing the backlink checker so it will give me a good idea of what I should learn in doing the backlinks correctly.
