Writing content that sells a service or product for you

When you decide to put up a membership type website, you will need to have content on there that will pitch the perfect content at your visitors in order to close them before you ever get an email from them asking questions.  This sounds like a far fetched idea since a lot of us have websites that sell something and we always get emails before purchases, but it is definitely possible to get sales without talking to someone, and that's what I'm going to go over in the discussion Writing content that sells a service or product for you

A lot of people can type, but not a lot of them can spin words of gold that will single-handedly sell the service or membership by itself.  I've been writing for years so I can do this without much thought.  I have multiple websites that I've written sales content on and it's still not easy, but I can do it.  Now most people can't write like me and get people to have a story generate within their heads, but you don't have to worry because I'm here to help Writing content that sells a service or product for you

Over the years I've written plenty of content, as you might notice if you just browse a few pages of this discussion section on Seocheckout Writing content that sells a service or product for you  But writing content alone doesn't get you sales.  You need to pull people in and get them interested, then hit them with some "Sign Up Now" or "Buy Now" call to actions Writing content that sells a service or product for you  If that doesn't work, a strategic pop up when they're about to leave that offers a discount is always a good way to capture a few extra sales here and there, but that's not what I'm going to be covering just yet lol.  I'm here to talk about the content, so let's get to it Writing content that sells a service or product for you

Questions that you should think of right now are:

  1. What kind of content will get people to blindly pay for something you're offering without contacting you first?
  2. What kind of content will pull people into my website?

Two Factors which are pretty important.
  1. The content will need to be written strategically and not jumbled.  This is one of the reasons people leave the "Buy Now" and "Sign Up Now" buttons at the bottom of the sales pages, the people are reading the content which is slowly closing the deal then they get hit with the call to action when they have their hopes high Writing content that sells a service or product for you  You need to get into detail with your selling points, but not too much.  You don't want to give away everything in the sales page because you will want them to be pining for more, and they can certainly get it by signing up.

  2. Your content needs to be as unique as possible.  Usually I would say 100% unique but with each day and more webmaster getting online, your content will begin to be less unique because people will have the same ideas as you.  Now you should easily be able to get your content above 90% unique so try to target that as your lowest point.  If you have unique content, you're likely to pull in traffic over time from the search engines that converts at a much higher rate than most advertising campaigns.  The beauty of this is that when you have a good search engine ranking, it usually doesn't take much to keep it there and get all that delicious traffic from Google, Yahoo! and Bing Writing content that sells a service or product for you


Click Bait:
From a content standpoint, you will definitely need to understand what click bait is because this is what will urge people to click through to your website and learn more about your services or products.  If you're just writing up a bland article that gives away all your content, why would they sign up for a service or purchase a membership on your website?  Click bait is like a click hanger when it comes to content.  You give them 5 points of interest but leave 4 or 5 points hidden so that they want to know what they are.  Now this will vary depending on how many points of interest you have, but if you can't come up with at least 5 then you need to do some additional work on your service, membership site or product lol.

When you talk about the few points you're letting people know for free, you will want to keep it short and sweet but get all the juicy details in there.  Think of it as sitting down for thanksgiving and you don't have to carve the turkey, you just pull what you want off of the plate that was already prepared for you.  The turkey that you're taking off the plate is the juicy details which everyone wants.  They don't want to read through a huge 1,000 word description of just one point of your website because that's the same as prepping the turkey, cooking the turkey, carving the turkey and then setting it out for everyone to enjoy.  Just give them the meat of the content for the points and they will love it Writing content that sells a service or product for you

Another form of click bait is something that sparks curiosity, just like a cliffhanger does. 

A few good examples of this are as follows:
  1. "Startling outcome in court after a woman drowns her 3 children"
  2. "I used these 3 simple weight loss tips and they actually worked!"
  3. "9,000 clients have hit #1 in Google.  This method definitely works"

For the first example about the woman and her children, you're probably thinking "Well, if it's a startling outcome then she must have not been convicted.  Why Wasn't She Convicted!!!!"  and then the click through happens to see why she wasn't convicted (but she likely was).  For the second example, there are always people trying to lose weight, so if you have simple tips that actually work, you'll get clicks.  For the third, it shows that someones SEO method actually works because 9,000 clients have already tested it out and gotten top rankings, but what is the method?  And now there's another click through lol.

The only problem with click bait is that you will need to follow up your curiosity building titles with actual content that matches.  You will need to deliver on your titles and not just post some trash that people don't want to read.  Give quality and unique content and people will more than like buy something if they're on your site for long enough lol.




In Conclusion:
You'll mainly need titles and content that builds curiosity that makes people not be able to resist clicking through.  Once you have them on your website you've already won half the battle, now your on page content needs to seal the deal.  If you get them in with amazing titles but your website looks like crap, I can assure you won't get many sales lol.  Build your content so that it sells for you and you don't get a ton of emails asking random questions that could have easily been answered on your website already lol.

Yes, even as a newbie, I have been reading your articles here a lot, and they are all very helpful. I have read the words "call to actions" and click bait, but I did not really understand what they are. Thank you for explaining these techniques and giving those examples for us to understand.

I know it'll take lots of effort to build a website, set up a brand, and make a sale, I am really grateful for finding your articles, and also seocheckout, as I have been learning a lot from your articles. It's just that I need to start action and practice more with this knowledge you shared. Thanks again for the great article!

Like you, I am also trying to learn whatever I find in this site because I am not a techie especially with SEO that is alien to me. Now I have learned about quality contents for a better ranking of the site with search engines. I have also learned the use of keywords. With the backlinks, I have confusion with some techniques although I think they will be clear to me sooner or later.

Ahh, the good old clickbait. It's crazy to see how popular it has gotten compared to a few years ago. It is like nobody thought about its benefits before. I think it's a good way of getting the attention of the potential customer - if it's well made, of course. You want to intrigue them but not give too much away. But I agree, even if the clickbait is a good one and your actual website is terrible, you still won't sell anything. You have to focus on both and not just one. They always go hand in hand. You hook the fish onto the fishing pole then slowly reel it in.

Regardless of the actual content, people actually fall for the clickbait just like a trap. This concept has become more popular in recent times than ever, and well, it's working wonders. Literally!

I don't so much stress myself on writing a content that sells a particular product. I write a content that attracts prospective buyers to the product. I write to attract them to the product then afterwards describe what the product does and all. Left to them to pay for it or not.

Very good points, especially in the context of a membership website.

Just a word of caution on using clickbait, though. Clickbaits are generally frowned upon, and major websites such as Facebook are taking steps to discourage, even prevent such content from appearing in their pages. If and when employed, care should be taken to ensure that it leads to well-researched, unique, and useable content. As noted in the conclusion, the content needs to totally "seal the deal", and people wouldn't mind being pulled in by clickbait.

I have a blog section of my ecommerce site that sells affiliate store. The articles in the blog section and the products are on the same niche. The blog topics are related to the products. The blog posts do not endorse products but it provides knowledge and information in the niche. People will find my website while looking for the topics featured on my blog. When they find my blogs, they will also see products on my websites. Thus, my blog entries will help me drive sales.

I don’t think it is a good idea to think of way for people to blindly buy what you are offering. There used to be a company here that capitalizes in that style of marketing. In their display center in the mall, those checking their products would be surprised with the staff greeting them with announcement that they had won a product. The prospective customer would be elated and later on the customer would realize that he had paid for all those products that were supposed to be free. It took some years before the authorities uncovered that gimmick.
