High-Quality images for you social shares

People respond more to visual content in comparison with text only content.
This is a fact.
High-Quality images for you social shares
The statics say you can get 600+ percent higher involvement in your social media posts if your post contains images and are not text only content. You will also get almost double the retweets on posts with pictures. More than 80 percent of all Facebook brand based interactions are made on photos.

So there is no debating that photos can help you gain more engagement, visits and most importantly conversion!
My question is: Where do you get all the pictures needed for a weekly posting session without stealing someone else's work?

Big players out there hire professional photographs to produce tons of content for them, either by photographing their products in a gazillion different ways or by also hiring designers to photoshop everything into clever and cool image content.

But not all of us have the budget to hire professional photographs and web designers to create all that unique content. This is why most of us turn to stock photography. Problem is, that a lot of free stock photography you will find out it is cheap and way to "generic" and although I personally can "smell" them from a mile away, most people don't actually care or notice this, for them, its all about the message sent.

Watch out for Copyright

Seriously, before you post or modify any photo you may find online, always double check the copyright licenses behind them! You really don't want to get into legal problems over some images. Second, look for images and photos under "public domain" license which basically means you can do whatever your want, you can publish, distribute, modify or even use it to sell products.

Another type of copyright images and photos may have:

  • Creative Commons - You can share them under a certain set of rules
  • Royalty-Free - One time buy, you can use it for commercial purposes after that.
  • Rights Managed - You can use them more than once. You have to pay additional costs every time you want to use the photo/image.
My top places for HIGH-quality free images and photos:

1. Unsplash - Lots of photos plus a search engine which make a pretty good job at filtering whatever you need. You may not always find everything you want in an exact and specific way, but new photos are added every 10 days and chances are you can always find something to work with.

2. Picjumbo - Similar to Unsplash, on Picjumbo you can filter photos by category. And you can find a pretty wide variety of photos. I usually search on both Picjumbo and Unsplash and choose the picture that fits the most for my post or social media share.

3. Death to Stock - This is a little bit different from the first two websites. Here you just need to subscribe and you will get an email with 10 high-quality photos every month. You can choose a niche for the photos you may want to receive, but don't expect anything specific, the images can be pretty random and you may not always find exactly what you need, but they are free and good quality, you simply can't complain.

It doesn't matter if you need them for your blog or for your online store. You will need image based content, there is no debating this.
As for your social media campaigns, you will need A LOT OF image based content. It can help you tell your story in a simple way, hooking your desired audience. Just make sure you stay relevant to your brand or niche and always give people a call to action.

Where do you get your stock photography? Let's share good sources with free content we can all use!

There are some other websites too. Such as:
  • Pixabay
  • FreeImages.com
  • Shutterstock (Premium but Best)
As you know Shutterstock images are premium but I have a trick to download them:

This is indeed true. Images bring life to your posts. And they can also be your downfall as well. People don't pay much attention to certain rights on the internet and they end up in a bad situation. High quality pics over low quality ones is a must, but it would also be great if you could use your own photos / images. If you can't royalty free would be the best bet.

Thanks for the information. I knew about unsplash but I didn't know about death to stock or Picjumbo. I use another site called Pixabay, and your right good quality pics can go along way in getting steady traffic to your site.

One advice that I will give regarding using photo is never use water marked photos. You can get wonderful photos on stock photography website, however, to use stock photos, you will have to purchase. If you download without purchasing, the photos will show water mark.
Another advice I will give is do not use any random photos found on google. Always use photos that you have rights to use. You should only use Creative Commons images.

Do you mean to say that the photos with watermark are not good for downloading for your own use? I have heard of a site that would put a watermark on your images so that you can prove the ownership. But what if I would upload my photos to a site for sharing it to the public, I should not put a watermark on those photos? Pardon me for this question that shows my ignorance because this is the first time that I have come across such issue about shared images.

The watermarks on the photo states that it is copyrighted. You should never use an image that is owned by other person. IN order to use an image it should either be free (likes the ones you can find on pixabay, a free photo site), your own images, or the images you have rights to use. You can use your own photos, your sister's photo if she allows, however, in order to use your boss's photo you need a permission.
If you want your photo to be available for free (anyone can download and use it), there is no need to use watermarks; however, if you want to share it publicly, yet do not want other people to use it, you should water mark photos.

If you want to use high-quality images then be careful with the copyright issue. You can take photos with your high-quality camera. It will be a unique and interesting. It will take a lot of time to find the unique image that no one else used before or you would have to pay a lot of money for that. So it is better to take your own photo. This is only my suggestion. You can do it in your own way.

Unsplash and Pixabay are two of my favorites. I use picmoneky and canva to edit those images. And so far that is working out for me. I wish to use better images for now. And if they properly convert, it can give you enough good leads with likes and shares. Most of the people are using the unsplash a lot. So there needs to be other sources for the images now.

Proper conversion matters, that is true indeed. A lot of people might get their hands on good quality images, upload them over a bad service and get the quality down. I myself prefer to export my own photos on PC, without websites and such

Particularly I think the images are very important in the posts. I think most people are attracted to the image and then read the content, the image gets people's attention.
In this case, it is essential to post high quality images that do not violate copyright law. If it is possible to use own images, I think that making the images themselves can give even more credibility.

I always use pixabay or wikimedia photos which are free to use. Then, I won't be in the fix with copyright issues. Otherwise, I use my own photos taken with my smartphone. Those photos had to be clear, concise and sharp. I also indicate in the caption that the photos belonged to me.

Thanks for sharing this important tip and those webs that provide free quality images I'll surely look through them,
I admit that I also read contents which have good images and I think it's common with lots of people, quality images attract readers, sometimes I read few thing on a page and just look at the picture because sometimes pictures says it all, so I think it's important to use quality, relevant and high definition image to put on contents.

I am fortunate to have a huge archive of photos since 2004 when we had our very first digital camera. We are fanciers of personal shots and not really professional. Occasions are also preserved in the archive. With the hundreds of thousands of photos that we have, it has become my policy to use only our own photos in order to avoid any infringement rights violation. At least I don’t have to worry with that issue.
