How to choose the products you promote as an affiliate

As an affiliate, you need to build an audience. You can do this on your own website or blog, but also on social media platforms. Keep in mind that in order for people to click on your links and actually buy the products, they need to trust you. This is why it is important to promote only products that you use or trust yourself. Don't just promote all the products you can find and hope that you sell some of them.

Yes if you have a site or blog then it would be easy for you to promote your product and get some sales also. Social media is also a good platform to get traffic.

Of course, it's not only about listing your products or trying to sell them it's about building a network and building a reputation. Reputation provides trust. The more positive it is, the more people will consequently trust you and be more open to buying from you.

Social media platforms; such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, are right now probably the best source of promotion and exposure.

I've been haphazardly building a following on YouTube and Instagram. I have almost 7000 subscribers on YouTube and 2300 on Instagram, which I've acquired over the last five years. I am now trying to sell t-shirts but I've got keep them specific to the subject of the channel and IG page (natural hair). Hopefuly, I can convert all those videos and pics into cash.

Building a network is a nice idea that I think is the best plan for affiliate marketing. Although it is not easy to build a network of people but it can be done if you have the patience and perseverance. I remember one blogger that started with a Facebook Group. Having the same niche with his blog, most of the Facebook Group members became instant readers of his blog. I guess that network scheme can also work in affiliate marketing.

I have found that most of the time the product promotion may not be that easy. Some people don't like to be sold on things. I know that because nobody appreciated my posts on Patreon. So that is one way to understand how bad product choice can be. But make sure to select the product based on user demand. Less you assume and more you learn from trends the better. That should help you a lot.

I tend to stick to trends when it comes to affiliate marketing. For example, last month I made a killing off of affiliate links for fidget spinners. When the iPhone 8 comes out I'll be sure to put affiliate links on iPhone 8 cases.

Yeah, and choosing a niche matters a lot because a common tactic for affiliate marketers is to make an affiliate product selection first, and then research the niche. Instead, try to find a great niche first before you look into your affiliate product selection.
A good niche will usually have various quality products you can promote, allowing for split testing and commission negotiations with the vendor. Sometimes an affiliate campaign will fail for no clear reason, but choosing a profitable niche first allows you to change course and turn it into a winner.

I think that's the problem, most people have, choosing a niche and a product. Conventional wisdom given is that you choose a niche by researching a niche that is popular on Google. I tend to disagree with this advise. Don't you think you are entering a crowded market? How do you differentiate yourself? And for a product how do you taste the product before promoting it? How do you buy everything you want to promote?

I 'll give the example of health care that is a popular niche. Can anyone think of product that is already not being promoted by a gazillion people?

I have read in one discussion that being an affiliate is like being an adviser (or advisor) on the products. That means as a product advisor, you need to know the utmost detail of the product that you are recommending. My question is what if you have a hundred products in your list, isn’t it a big task to memorize all of those? And if you don’t know everything about those products then that is not a good situation for a product advisor.
