Top free blogging platforms for new bloggers

If you are new to blogging world and you want to start writing a blog then Blogspot (blogger.com) should be your first choice. It is hosted by google and gives a free subdomain. You don't need to do SEO work for it as it is search engine friendly. The only thing you have to do is to write the high-quality content.

I started my career with this platform and now I have 2 blogs with main domain and paid host.
You can make a free blog Weebly too.

Blogger is awesome! The best free blogging platform out there in my opinion. Why?
Two reasons:
1. You can add a custom domain. Meaning you can buy a .com; .net; .info or whatever you want and gain free hosting forever while using the same of Blogger's awsome platform as a management interface. You can ask more of this really, it has everything you need: like access to robots.txt, the ability to set redirects 301 as you please, custom meta descriptions and so on.
2. You are using Google's service, meaning you have a slight advantage in ranking and organic traffic. This is true, I've tested it myself. The same content published both on Blogger and wordpress.com. The Blogger based content in average manages to rank higher compared with the free wordpress.com content.

Sure, there are other free blogging services out there like I said, wordpress.com; weebly; medium and Wix - all of them great, but for me and a lot of other folks, Blogger remains our best choice.

Apart from being a content management system, wordpresss is also a wonderful free blogging platform. If you do not want to use a wordpress sub domain, you can use your custom domain and get wordpress hosting. However, this is very expensive. The good alternative is get a domain from a domai registrar and find a web hosting service, than then use wordpress as a content management service.
By the way, how much does it cost to a custom domain with the blogger?

I began my blogging career by writing on a blogger. Since I was novice, I did not know how to pull traffic. I also did not know about Adsense thus I did not earn anything. Later I found residual income site and began publishing on residual income sites. I think writing on residual income site is better than writing on free blogging platforms. Through Residual income site you can not only develop your writing but also make money.

I'm actually interested in entering the blogging world and have done a bit of research and checked out some books from the library. The two books I got regarding blogging are:
  • Angel's Laws of Blogging: What You Need to Know if You Want to Have a Successful and Profitable Blog - by Angel Laws with Carole Moore
  • The Legal Side Of Blogging for Lawyers - by Ruth Carter
Now in regards to the best free starter blog platforms for newbies, an article on wpbeginner.com says that the top 10 are:
  1. WordPress.org
  2. WordPress.com
  3. Blogger
  4. Tumblr
  5. Medium
  6. Squarespace
  7. Wix
  8. Joomla
  9. Ghost
  10. Weebly
I hear a lot of good reviews about WordPress and that it's the number one go-to platform. I myself am thinking about trying Wix because I love how simple and fun it looks when creating blogs, websites, and even online stores.

I knew most of the free blogging platforms you have listed here. My question is related to tumblr. I have tumblr account, which is dormant. How do you monetize your tumblr blog. Can you use ad networks like adsense with tumblr blogs, f yes, how do you do it. can we use affiliate ads on tumblr blog?

For me Blogger was much better site at first. Then I migrated to my own personal hosting. And here I can control the most. So free hosting has it's limitation. But blogger and tumblr seems to be having no problem with affiliate marketers. And this process in itself can make some good money for bloggers if they choose to build niche site through blogger.com. I'd suggest starting with either tumblr or blogger.

The best thing about using blogger is you can also apply to adsense or use adsense if you already have. No other free blogging platforms will allow you network ads. You can do affiliate marleting on most of the free blogging platforms, but cannot use ad networks like adsense, not even on wordpress (free). I think wordpress is more powerful than blogger. If making money is not your primary concern, wordpress is the best option.

Yes not just adsense but many other ads can be added into the adsense. So it was indeed a good option. And some of the ads were easily blend with the design. And not all the time it can be good enough for the blogging and other platform options. I guess if you get the overview of the blogger it is still a good choice for those who don't have money.

When I was just starting as an online writer, I created a blog on blogspot. My primary aim of having this blog was to republished my newspaper articles and archive the articles published on various newspapers in one place. I also used adsense and amazon on my blog. However, I deleted this blog because I became busy with other projects.

I think in past it used to get a lot of traffic. And on that note you can see that there are still plenty of such options out there. I know one thing for sure that some bloggers who are into the ads and revenue. Those people find the blogging platform such as this handy.

These days I do not see free blogs having much importance when it comes to blogging. Even if earning money is not your primary concern and you want to blog for fun, earning revenue does not harm you. Therefore instead of free blogs, you will have to move with self-hosted blogs. These days domain and hosting are so cheap that you can create a blog for less than $30 for one year. One year is enough to make some cash and pay for domain and hosting renewal.

They do have a value. You can get initial few free backllinks through them. And that is also counted. So nothing goes to waste that badly. So you can surely want to check that part. I'd say if you can have free blog then surely keep it there.

Oh yes. I missed the obvious point. By building free blogs on various platforms and using these free blogs to give backlinks to your primary site will be very beneficial. I have not done this yet, however, I am thinking to do it soon.

I have done that but not much regularly. I wish to do that every month. This is to keep the website which is primary more relevant. And not to spam the links though. Just to drive the traffic.

Quality matters more than the quantity. If you want to generate backlinks from free blogs, your free blogs also need to be high quality. You need to publish original contents and generate backlinks from the related niche.

I think quality is subjective. And in order for traffic to flow. Quality needs to be weighed the same way. I mean who think buzzfeed has quality but they generate traffic.

Every blog I have ever had was through blogger. it's my favorite blogging platform ever and just the ability to have free access to source code is a good enough reason for me to stick with blogger because this give me the ability to create my own custom UI and import it and change meta data easily. Blogger also works perfectly with adsense so it's possible to start making money before you've even spent a dime.

Like many people, I started my first project with blogger.com. But before long I realized that I needed more than a simple blog. I noticed that I needed a better layout and specific features that I saw on many other blogs and that I could not do on blogger.com.

In a few months I studied a bit about Wordpress and migrated my sites to this platform.

Today I can say that it was one of the best online choices I made.

Wordpress I love you hahaha

  • Wordpress and Blogspot (or Blogger) for blogging.
  • Tumblr is good for micro-blogging and social sharing. (Like tweeting. Only more than 140 characters.)
  • Medium and Niume are great for republishing content. (Use these sites to direct traffic to your blog.)

I also started with Blogger. I once read a blog post that claimed anyone can use Blogger to monetize a blog with not just Google Adsense but also with other ad sharing companies. I learned later that it wasn't true at all and that the post was not updated but not after I created some catchy articles and long posts. I tried to insert ads from an ads company associated with the PTC site I was working on at the time. Blogger removed my subdomain and the blog with it due to spammy content. There goes my hard work! Newbie lessons learned. I do appreciate it that though it seems Blogger looked simpler than Wordpressc.com, I learned to create my own layout and got introduced to HTML.

I have two blogs on blogger .com and I find it very convenient to use, the interface is quite simple and user friendly, you can also customize the theme to suit you and you would rank well on Google if your content is of very good quality..Another free platform is wordpress, it's also user- friendly for beginners

When I was co-blogging, it was Blogger dot com that we were into. In fact, the blog is still there although it had stagnated. One thing going for Blogger is the connection to Adsense since they are both owned by Google. But lately, I have been reading reviews about Wordpress that it is better as a blogging platform than what Blogger can offer. In fairness to Blogger, it is the first and original and I think they will continue to improve their service.
