It was a big week for the online marketing community and social media networks! The two main stories are that LinkedIn announced hitting a goal in the number of active users and Twitter just realized its growth this year and tells the world about future ambitions and milestones.
1. LinkedIn has seen a big increase in the number of users both last year and this year and it finally reached 500 million! Sure for big social networks like Facebook or even Instagram these numbers may be seen as child's play, but you have to remember that LinkedIn isn't a fun and games type of social network, it was build and it is used as a professional platform for people that work in any type of industry to find and interact with one-another.
Also, unlike Facebook, for example, you can publish articles on LinkedIn and oh how LinkedIn's users love publishing articles, 100 million articles per week to be more exact, this creates a lot of professionally orientated articles for LinkedIn, free quality content that no other social network manage to pull off.
Personally, I love LinkedIn. I'm starting to find myself over there browsing its feed more than I do on Facebook. Because guess what? As my career advanced and I start getting older, I don't care about trivial things anymore, I don't really care that one of my friends just published 50 new photos on Facebook, I care about news from the industry I work in but also general news and information that targets the financial part of the world or another type of current events.
My point is: LinkedIn is definitely a platform for grownups that are always ready to talk or read/write business this is why LinkedIn has active users from 200 different countries.
And I forgot to mention of LinkedIn's greatest features: You can find a job on LinkedIn! It has more than 10 million published jobs every week, to mention the number of recruiters on the network always in the look out for fresh "pray".
Some interesting Linkedin Statistics:
2. The second most important news of this week is Instagram reaching almost one billion users.
Well, 700 million to be more exact but its growth seems to accelerate and at this rate, Instagram will reach one billion active users in no time.
I'm sure Instagram will continue beating and copying Snapchat until there will be nothing left of Snapchat to beat. The way I see it nobody can mess with Facebook anymore, they're too big to fail in any way shape or form and Instagram vs Snapchat is a perfect example of all this.
Here is a chart on how accelerated Instagram's growth really is:
3. And finally the third most important news of the week in what has been all about social networks reaching their goals. Twitter finally reports some profit as well as an increase in its active users. Compared with the networks above, Twitter is the smallest social network with only 328 million active users, but this number is far beyond what experts predicted for Twitter, this is why all of this became such big news this week.
In my opinion, this is a new comeback, you don't see this very often when online companies start to fall they usually die off and rarely have a comeback. But Twitter did, beating everyone's expectations.
