How different generations watch videos and consume video content

Ever wondered what is the difference between Generation X, Y and Z when it comes to watching videos?
Here are some facts about how often people watch youtube based on their generation:

  • 36% percent of generation X watch videos on Youtube on a daily basis
  • 50% percent of generation Y watch videos on Youtube on a daily basis
  • And a whooping 75% of generation Z watch videos on Youtube on a daily basis

Here are some facts on what kind of video content each generation actually watches on Youtube:
1. Generation X
  • 70% - Videos on how to do something
  • 45% - Music videos
  • 65% - Videos containing reviews

2. Generation Y
  • 70% - Videos on how to do something
  • 70% - Videos containing reviews
  • 50% - Videos about unboxing products
  • 50% - Videos where YouTubers brag about what they bought

3. Generation Z
  • 80% - Videos containing reviews
  • 75% - Videos where YouTubers brag about what they bought
  • 70% - Videos about unboxing products

Overall Generation Y takes something from both worlds but only Generation X watches music videos for example. Another curious fact is that Generation Z doesn't really consume "how to" content. At least, not yet.
What do you think about these generation patterns when in comes to consuming video content?

Generation X and Y seem like they're more focused on pushing themselves forward while generation Z is more focused on material things.

Generation X seems to be the one that will be the most successful with generation Y coming in 2nd and Y in a far 3rd.

It seems like it's slowly getting diluted if you look at it. Generation X focuses on business and a little bit of fun, Generation Y is about a 50/50 fun and business ration while Generation Y is all fun and pleasing themselves through purchases lol.

I mean I could be totally wrong, but that's just what I see.

I have found that people under 15 are consuming a lot of YouTube content. And they are making things go viral. It may not be easy on many grounds. But considering how the people going around viral with stuff. It makes me wonder if those viral are intentional or if they have some weight. But yeah if it's viral among the young people it can surely be good for many reasons.

You said it right. The so called millennials have the propensity to share videos that they go viral without reason. I had checked on several videos that are certified nonsense but they have thousands of views mainly from the trending caused by the millenials. These statistics are a good food for thought that can be a basis when we create a video.

I think millennials are sharing very random content too. I have seen some of the people sharing their own personal stuff. I think that's something where we have to draw the line. And not something we can learn to do it properly though. It is one of those things where we have to learn how to adjust with the content.

I will want to believe that generation z are the youths because that generation basically describes how youths behaves towards video consumption, they watch more of bragging and unboxing videos. They're not so keen about how to do videos like generation x

My husband is in his late 60s. Dragging him into the computer age was no easy feat. We finally got him to use desktop computers. We even introduced him to the PlayStation console. We moved into some apartments and my boys did not want to subscribe to the cable TV service. But it's OK because at least we have the Internet. Because of the Internet, my husband discovered YouTube. To say he's addicted would be an understatement! How different generations watch videos and consume video content As for me? I like Netflix for most shows and movies. But sometimes I scour the Internet looking for sites that stream videos for free because Netflix doesn't have enough Korean historical dramas in their database. Every now and then though I get a little bit nostalgic and I miss watching good old-fashioned local television. How different generations watch videos and consume video content
