    phpBB vs MyBB ? Which on is better ?

    If you are familiar with community forums then you may know about phpBB and MyBB. phpBB and MyBB are community forum scripts. Both scripts are free to use and open source. phpBB is an older and most popular forum script and the other hand MyBB is also old but not as phpBB. Nowadays MyBB script is getting popularity. I have used both phpBB and MyBB. Mostly I like MyBB script. Because its very user friendly and you can manage your MyBB forum without having any coding knowledge. But for phpBB you will need to have some coding knowledge to add new themes/plugins. However, from my opinion MyBB is better then phpBB. What do you think ? Which is better from your opinon ? phpBB or MyBB ?

    Given a choice between phpBB and MyBB and I would choose MyBB each time. I remember when I first started out creating forums, phpBB was the very first software I used and I used to think it was a good software, the administration panel was difficult to work with I found but I was pleased with the outcome each time. When MyBB was released I remember being curious and trying it out, the admin panel was so much easier to use, the mods were a lot easier to add into the forum meaning I would have less problems with errors and such but also I found the layout of the forums when running MyBB to be a lot more professional than phpBB. I switched not long after finding out about MyBB and have never gone back to phpBB since. I am not sure how much phpBB has changed but some have told me that even though they have upgraded their software there is still not much change when it comes to adding mods and the admin side of things.

    Has there been any change when it comes to adding mods onto the forum or do you still have to do a lot of template edits when using phpBB?

    Well, I have used phpBB nearly one year ago. But some of my friends are using phpBB and they told me that they still need to edit template for adding mods. I think phpBB developer should make the admin panel more user friendly. Otherwise they will lost their popularity. Because competition is going up !

    I agree, with software such as IPB, Xenforo and vBulletin competition really is at an all time high now and then with MyBB which is free which I say is always comparable to vBulletin and Xenforo it's tough competition. It's a shame that even now after all these years phpBB still needs template edits for mods, I remember that always being a pain for me because one slight mistake and it would mess up your template, sometimes beyond repair if you couldn't find where you had made the mistake. As for the admin panel, with so many other software's having user friendly admin panels, it would make sense for them to create a more user friendly one to get back in competition with the other forum software.

    I also prefer MyBB I have a few forum websites my best one is my The walking dead forum which I used mybb for and I got a great theme what I downloaded. I then re edited the whole theme also mybb as some great plugins like my best plugin is the google seo one and also the karma.

    There is also SMF but still mybb hands down it is really great and responsive.
