I'm constantly getting asked "What's better? SEO or PPC?" and I always have a similar answer that pleases some people while pissing off others lol
Whenever I'm starting up a new website I'll always focus on the on page optimization because that's the first line of attack when trying to rank for specific keywords. Obviously you have to work on your titles, descriptions, keywords (for the odd search engines), alt tags, content and keyword density and that's what I tell them. Some things they don't understand so I'll have to show them, but in the end they get it.
After I get the on page optimization done I'll always tell a client to start up an adwords campaign in order to pull in sales. Annnnnd this is where some of them get pretty pissed off lol. I tell them to start throwing some money into PPC because that will bring in instant sales. I will sometimes log into their accounts and set everything up, but I do PPC management as a service so I'll usually charge them if I do it. I'll give them all the information on how to do it and a time frame on when to expect the best ROI. Some clients listen while others just go crazy with clicks
My clients sometimes get pissed off when I tell them this because they are already paying me for SEO. And we all know that SEO is suppose to increase your rankings to pull in FREE clicks from the search engines. But why am I asking them to pay for clicks if they're already paying me to pull traffic from the search engines? Well that's really simple actually, and this is where the pissed off clients calm down slightly. I tell them to run both SEO and PPC campaigns at the same time because SEO will bring in a flood of clients over time while PPC campaigns can bring in clients today. I push my SEO services as a branding campaign that gets them FREE traffic and clicks from the search engines over time. I let them know that when the SEO campaign starts to kick in they can pull back on the PPC campaign and save a lot of money, and they usually love that
The only downside to this is that a lot of people don't want to pay for both PPC and SEO at the same time. People paying for SEO are the ones who can't afford to pay for PPC but want the same results. But getting the same results from a PPC campaign that you get from an SEO campaign aren't realistic. You can stop paying for SEO and you'll keep getting traffic, but if you stop paying for PPC your website is dead in the water.
If you do run an SEO service you'll have to explain all of this to your clients prior to starting, otherwise you're going to have a pissed off client in 3 months

So pissed or pleased, we don't have magic wands to make them reach. Even if i do, i would use it for my self Well yeah. Pissed or not, they have to know one thing. SEO takes time to get results and PPC is right away. SO i would ask them back if they are willing to pay forever for PPC or do SEO (for later results) and PPC for some results tomorrow morning. There is nothing for nothing. As long they looking for a way to get out on local or international internet market, they have to do the same what we all do to beat competition and day by day it takes more time and efforts to rank higher in order to get more business. So pissed or pleased, we don't have magic wands to make them reach. Even if i do, i would use it for my self :D
