I overheard a very interesting discussion about freelancers who sell themselves to short.
Most of us are aware of the competition and most of us are aware of the fact that this competition will make us earn less as we need to lower our prices to still rake in sales. This goes for literally any kind of service online.
However, I'll focus on articles and content in this topic.
The discussion I heard was interesting and one of the guys debating proposed a minimum cost per word. He believe a fair and reasonable price would be $2,25 per word, and at the very least $2,15 per word if you're a beginner. - So they question I have is, do any of you writers charge this?
I've seen tons of article writers charging $10 or $12 for a 500 word article for instance.. Kind of hard to compete with that price if you charge $225 for the same amount of words. (Based on the $2,25 per word.)
Superb quality would obviously increase the price but seriously. In my book you won't be able to charge $225 for something another seller will do for $10 or $12, even if you deliver 200% higher quality. - And even if you are able to make sales with that price, you won't be able to make sales on a regular basis.. So you'll lose money in the long run.
Article writers. What do you charge and what do you think about this?
Best Regards,

If someone hires me to do content writing for their articles, ads, or website content I'll give different pricing structures every time. For articles I normally charge $15 per 250 words. So if someone wants a 1,000 word article from me that is optimized, it would cost them $60, or $45 if I'm feeling nice For ad writing I'll usually just charge a flat fee of around $75 because this type of writing isn't as complex, but it does require SEO and marketing knowledge. I'll hammer out dozens of ads that target multiple keyword sets so the client can run multiple ad campaigns and use whatever ad he/she wants. For website content I'll usually charge $45 to $75 a page for 1 to 10 pages. For more than that I'll give discounts, but not very much because it takes a lot of work and each page takes a while to write up
Too many people are selling themselves short, like you said. I always encourage people to get into blogging when they want to make money online, and one of the reasons is because they can refine their writing skills. The other reason is because they're pretty much typing up hundreds of writing examples they can use to show their potential clients Right now I'm paying $15 per 1,000 word article that my writer optimizes for me so that I can just copy and paste it onto my website and make it live. A lot of articles like the ones I pay for go for $30 or more, but I've been working with this guy for a long time and guarantee at least 10 orders a month, so he cuts me a discount. I was trying to get him to write for free but he didn't bite when I offered him a percentage of the profits from my sales lol :D He would actually make more if he wrote for free, but in the beginning I didn't have much traffic and the deal wasn't very enticing. Now I'm sure he'd love to partner up and write for free lol. If someone hires me to do content writing for their articles, ads, or website content I'll give different pricing structures every time.
