Microsoft Stops Selling Windows 7 & Windows 8.1

Apparently Microsoft has stopped selling Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 operating systems to retailers and big OEMs such as Hp,Toshiba,Dell etc. It means that these OEMs will no longer get genuine OS from Microsoft.

However, It's not that I'm surprised by this move, because their main focus seems to be windows 10. And I'm pretty sure that within some years Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 will end up same as Windows Xp.

I'm using windows 10 yeah, but it's not a smart move, they're forcing users to use what they want not what users want. Windows 10 has been improved a lot since the first release but it's not even close when it comes to a stable OS.

Microsoft does this with every operating system. Its a marketing strategy that they use to force people to use the newest OS. I think its crazy that they are not selling windows 8 because its a newer OS. Windows 7 does not really surprise me its getting pretty old in age. Many companies are starting to do this kind of marketing and its makes me sick honestly. You know what is going to happen in the next few months now? Criminals are going to be able to capitalize on the fact its discontinued and they will make sure sales of non genuine Microsoft products. Windows ten is garbage and i love windows 7 i think its one of the best OS they have come out with since XP. Do you remember windows bob? So long ago but it was the best!

They do force users to get the latest operating system, as jkeyz stated. It's an evil marketing strategy, I agree. You see, they want users to get Windows 10 because the have a tracking system through Cortana. Every single time you search for something on your Windows 10 computer Cortana will catalog your searches and create a list of sorts. I'm not too entirely sure what they do with this data, but some have mentioned that they sell this data to advertising agencies, or store it on their servers.

I do not feel safe with my searches being sold to a third party. There is a way to turn off Cortana but it seems Cortana is like the brain behind the operating system as it were, you won't get the most of the search unless Cortana is activated. I'm hoping Windows 7 is not deprecated as Windows XP is. I love my Windows 7, and I think it's the best operating system that Microsoft has created. If my Windows 7 operating system is discontinued I will be so furious.

I have Linux on one of my computers so if in the future Windows decides to only support Windows 10, that is when I'll make the switch to Linux. Linux seems to be good for me.

This is what every company does really, they bring out something new and discontinue the old products forcing everyone to eventually upgrade to the latest product that they offer.

I loved Windows 7 but when I moved over to Windows 10 because when I purchased my last laptop that is what it came with.

This is just the way the world works now. Upgrade or be left behind.

I think it was only normal to make both windows 7 and windows 8 obsolete. I'm still using Windows 7 and I don't plan to switch to windows 10 anytime soon.

The jump from Windows XP to windows 7 was similar to the jump from windows 98 to windows XP but I don't think the switch from Windows 7 to Windows 10 is the same, I've worked on Win10 and its cool enough, but not revolutionary like Win7 and WinXP was. I expected more probably, this is why I will maintain win7 on my current laptop and maybe go straight to windows 11 when I'll buy a new laptop.

I actually never heard of this one until now, so I'm very late lmao. But as a windows 10 user, i'd say it's a great move. I love windows 10, despite the fact that it has a lot of haters. I'd say the first update to windows 10 was buggy, but now with the Creator's Edition update, I find it really nice and convenient. It's like 7 and 8.1 merged into one fresh system for me.

Windows 10 was slated to be the revamped edition and the latest installment of Windows. Microsoft's antidote to dysfunctional woes encountered in Windows 8. Many people suggested that Windows 8 was one of Microsoft's worst OS's to date so I would imagine that users would be eager to make the jump to WIndows 10. I think it's more of a strategy and market gimmick so as to maintain a substantial market value in a given time period. I always say there two sides that govern the tech industry there's the tech/ scientific side and the marketing/economics/money side of things. Often one side contradicts the other which may be why some advances are either delayed, have not materialized within the set time frame or when they do are overly priced and as a result lose their effect and impact.

I have heard lots of complaints against Windows 10 but I cannot be sure because I know that some users have their biases and prejudices on the operation of the computer. However, one indication that I know is the laptop that I bought. It is a brand new HP with Windows 10 in the bundle but the dealer downgraded the OS to Windows 7 for reasons of unresolved issues. Maybe Microsoft is trying to push their Windows 10 that’s why they want to phase out the lower versions.
