Have you ever ran a contest in order to gain more clients?

I was thinking about this for a while now so I figured the best thing to get an idea would be to bring it here Have you ever ran a contest in order to gain more clients?

I want to run a contest for affiliates to see who can bring in the most sales over a 7, 14, 21 or 30 day period. At the end of the time limit I would declare a winner and they would get paid a certain amount I chose in the beginning.

Now the affiliates would obviously get to keep the profits they make during the contest because that would just be unethical to let them generate sales for me and I keep the money they are entitled to as an affiliate lol Have you ever ran a contest in order to gain more clients?

I was also thinking of picking multiple winners, but not the first, second, and third place winners. I would have different categories that people can win in like "Most sales over 30 days" and "Most profit over 30 days". Doing this would allow people to still have a chance to win if they had 500 sign ups buy $15 items compared to the super affiliate who gets 2 sign ups who spend $4,500 a piece.

What other categories could I add for this? I wouldn't want to add anytihng that would revolve around them sending traffic because that can be gamed pretty easily. I don't want people who have access to millions of points in a traffic exchange to have a chance at the winning prize because that's not quality traffic and rarely ends up in a sale. I would want people who are actually busting their @$$ to get sales be the winners Have you ever ran a contest in order to gain more clients?

What do you guys and girls think? Is there anything else I could add to the contest so more people would come in and try to be the top dog?

Thanks,

Razzy

I think that is an awesome idea Razzy and yes I think just having the first three slots be a bit boring so I love your idea of different prize categories.

I've kinda got an idea in my head for another type of winner but I don't know how you would monitor it, maybe you can figure it out... something along the lines of "most ambitious affiliate" or "affiliate with most potential". You know like some people are just starting out and finding their feet and although they may not be a winner in sales or profit and perhaps their marketing reach right now is not so far but if they continue in the way that they start they have massive potential.

Does that make sense?

Hmmmm that would be really tough to monitor. Everyone can claim they are posting everywhere to pull in clients, but they all could be telling lies just to get their hat in the ring for "Most Ambitious Affiliate" lol Have you ever ran a contest in order to gain more clients?

I don't think I would do this level since it's almost impossible to track.

If you have an online store this affiliate content will surely work!
I remember seocheckout did this back in the day, Jordan even put up a board where everyone could see the top 20 or something like that if I remember correctly, this created fierce competition between everyone because we all wanted to at least outrank the guy in front of us.

I've actually managed to take 8th place or something like that and even if I haven't won anything is was worth it since I had some affiliate revenues coming my way.

So this is what I recommend, keep the score a public thing, make a top 50 or top 20 and update it daily!

A scoreboard would be a pretty cool idea. You would discourage the lower affiliates who can't compete with the super affiliates, but that's not a big deal if the super affiliates are fighting for the top spot lol Have you ever ran a contest in order to gain more clients?

This is a really good idea and I'm not surprised Jordan did something like this Have you ever ran a contest in order to gain more clients? I wonder where I would rank in a Seocheckout affiliate competition Have you ever ran a contest in order to gain more clients?

I have never run a contest to gain clients. However, I understand the importance of running contests in order to gain clients. However, your contest should be the genuine contest, you should reward the participants that you had originally promised. If you do not offer the prize or do not give the same reward, you will lose the clients and you will gain a bad reputation. I was once very active on a question and answer site. The most active participant was given $45. For the entire month I published on the site, however, when it came to claiming my first prize, the site owner denied payment.
I have a handful of blogs but most of them are inactive. I am thinking to bring these blogs into life by having contests, and reward programs.

I have always participated in online contests but never done any for my readers, maybe would think about it sure do help to bring in more traffic and subsequently sales. I think the purpose would be achieved because people that run this contests do have a positive result that is why sometimes they upped the prize. So yes it going to be profitable.

Any contest is welcome especially if the prize is substantial and worth the interest of the affiliates. But I guess you need to make the mechanics be a little exciting. What I mean is not just the amount of sales that should matter. However, isn’t the contest a way of putting pressure on them? I know that not everyone will be that interested but for those who are avid, they might be overdoing it that later can have a negative impact on the business. Just my thoughts.
