Search Engine Optimization or Google Search Optimization?

I was thinking, we call it Search Engine Optimization, but we all know its all about Google. So why not call it Google Search Optimization?

Search Engine Optimization or Google Search Optimization?

Sure, some of us are also checking ranks on Bing and Yahoo Search, but the main source of our all organic traffic is Google. Generally, if you do well on Google you also get good ranks on both Yahoo and Bing.

In some rare occasions, you may get a top level rank on Bing for example and not on Google. In that case, that rank may bring more organic traffic from Bing than Google. But how can you reach such a point? And does it worth the effort?

Has anyone here every optimize their pages and content for a specific search engine?
Is SEO different for Bing compared with Google?

I've always gone with the rule "Optimize for Google and the rest will fall in place" and it's worked very well for the last 13 years lol Search Engine Optimization or Google Search Optimization?

So many people are only focusing on Google because it's more difficult to rank for due to all the competition trying to profit on the massive amount of traffic that Google has. Hell, Bing and Yahoo partnered up and still can't touch the amount of search traffic that Google can generate lol Search Engine Optimization or Google Search Optimization? I don't remember the exact numbers, but I'm pretty sure that Google has just over 70% of the market share when it comes to online searches. So targeting a smaller search engine would yield you much less profits in the end if you make it to page one Search Engine Optimization or Google Search Optimization?

In the past I have set up plenty of dumby websites to test out new ideas and methods for ranking websites and I noticed that sometimes I do rank much higher on Yahoo! and Bing for a long time because of it. I won't expect any profits to come out of it because they websites are not monetized for the simple fact that I don't want anything tracked back to me lol Search Engine Optimization or Google Search Optimization? After a while I monetize them if they show promise, but I'll only do so if I think they can make money 6+ months after I launch them and finish my spammy link campaigns.

The techniques you can use to rank on Yahoo! and Bing seem that you can be a little more aggressive with your linking and be rewarded for it. If you were to be aggressive on a new website and trying to rank in Google, you would just get put into limbo and never see the first page due to Google flagging you as a spam website lol Search Engine Optimization or Google Search Optimization?

If you're targeting Google, it's likely that you'll not rank the same on Yahoo! and Bing due to their different search algorithms. The good thing is that now you only have to target Google and Bing because the Yahoo! search is now powered by Bing. It's like killing 2 birds with one stone Search Engine Optimization or Google Search Optimization?

What about targeting Bing specifically? I'm sure if you rank on 35th position on Google but you rank 1st on Bing for a highly searched keyword you'll end up having your main source of organic traffic as Bing.

But I'm unsure as how do you specifically optimize for Bing since most of the tutorials out there are general or having Google in mind.

That's a big go for Google Search Optimization. All the tricks, page arrangement, visual optimization, titles are done for Google. I never considered optimizing for Bing and Yahoo because Google is the king in the business and I am sure that once you prepared your website for it the rest will follow.
I do all my research on Google, for Google to get better ranking on, well yeah you guessed, Google. Having this in mind, i don't even know how to start working on Bing.

There are other search engines? LOL

I totally agree with you there Cristian. Most often people don't even say search online or do a web search. Almost every says "Google it" and that just sums it up doesn't it?

Yes I am sure some people use other search engines but Google is certainly the king of search isn't it?

I have not focused on ranking anywhere but Google and I don't bother following anything except my Google rankings. There have been the odd few times I have looked where I rank on Bing for example and it seems to me that Razzy is right, whatever happens on Google usually happens everywhere else too.

Well, it’s just a name and I think it’s not really that important. But here is my take on the SEO methods, they surely work for other search engines too. Google is the dominant search engine but we also get traffic from Yahoo, Bing and other search engines no matter how small. I am for the existing name of calling it SEO since it is applicable to all other search engines. But if you want to call it Google Search Optimization then you have the freedom to do so.
