Repetition isn't good for writing , true or false?

There are a lot of different ways of repetition that I see when I am reading, the most common is the use of little words like "I" "but" and words of that nature that are used one too many times in a good piece, another form of this would be rewording an opinion after things have already been explained, basically saying the same thing twice. Now I'm no author so there are times were this even effects my writing no doubt. it's still a work in progress on my end lol but for the more seasoned writers , I would like to know how you feel about it, have you ever had this problem in your writing? how has it effected you?

This sometimes effects me, because often at times I get writers block and can't properly write how I want to get my statements across. So I eventually repeat myself, and not even realize my mistake until I reread what I wrote. I would say repetition is neither good or bad, because if you're trying to prove a point, or get something across you'll do it more easily by repeating what you said backed along with your statements.

One thing that annoys me though is an article that is blatant spam, trying to pose as a unique article that just repeats itself over and over again. Now that would be considered bad in my books.

I agree with you. Many writers tend to use the same words several times. And as you said there is the other kind of repetition, where one repeats the same idea by just rewording it. In order to avoid repetition of the same word it is important to read through the article as you will be able to notice if you ended up using certain words over and over again. In such a case make sure to use synonyms. In the other case, it is crucial that you do not state the same ideas repeatedly as it would be too much fluff and a useless length. It is better to be concise, and in case you want to make a point more clear, it is better to use point form, rather than a number of sentences to try to elucidate something.

Everyone has a tendency to use repetition in their writing. I am at fault as well. This post made me think about my own writing habits and I have decided to learn ten to twenty new words per day from the dictionary to increase my vocabulary. Maybe a larger repertoire of words will help. I am sure it can't hurt. Thanks for this post. It inspired me to improve through daily learning.

Well sometimes people need a bit of repetition before they buy something, often it is good to bring across a very important point. However some articles I have read are just regurgitations of the same statement throughout which I find incredibly annoying.

I agree with EliteWriter, it is best to not repeat the same words throughout an article. Spending a little bit of time to research some synonyms would be very helpful.

@ Beverly - seems like a good book, noted, will read.
@Mike - I agree, you can't have a proper piece of content without stop words, but I think jkeyz2 may be referring to spinning a piece of information and basically saying the same thing twice in the same article. I always try to avoid this because I tend to do it sometimes, write the same idea from a different angle. While this may be great for explanations, it isn't too cool for short updates and comments.

I'm great at using "I", "I've" and "I'm" as the first words in a new sentence. I hate it, but I'm not native in English and I personally believe that it would've been easier for me to STOP using these as the first words, if I were native in English. - However, even though it's not easy, you can always train your writing skills, and I've been doing that for the last few years.

But... I still suck. Repetition isn

If your written content does not have any substance, it will never attract readers, without readers you are not going to make money
(because readers mean traffic and traffic mean money).
Sometimes repetition is necessary, for example, to support your statement. However, repeating more or less same thing is not recommended. It is a sign of bad writing. You need stop words to make your content readable, nonetheless, using too many stop words make your work clumsy.

I've been writing content for the past three years and though I'm still not the best content writer around, there are marked improvements in my skills and speed. My very first work with the content site merited a revision request. The project required me to write 5 articles about Tinnitus and since I practically have no idea how this should be done, I mostly discussed the same facts across those article, sometimes even using the same words to say them. I have no idea they were supposed to land on the same site. It was bad writing and that was the first lesson I learned about content writing. Never repeat yourself or you're going to bore the readers and yourself. In addition, the articles should be unique and independent of each other and should be written using different angles.

There's another writing mistake that I've been making unconsciously and I'm thankful that there are grammar checkers that I can use before finalizing and submitting my work. One time, I had an article checked with sentencechecker.com. I saw three highlighted words and when I hovered over them, I read the comment that three successive sentences began with the same word. I was even advised to use a thesaurus to find a synonym lol.

I am into writing sites to improve my written English. What I noticed in my writing is my vocabulary which needs to be developed. I have to learn how to use synonyms and adverbs as well. But I understand that repeating words in one paragraph is not a good style of writing for it is tantamount to being redundant. In that case, the use of synonyms should apply. However, in spite of knowing that beingredundant is a flaw in writing, most writers like me tend to commit that mistake.
