I remember one of the other members here talking about attending Google events, I think it was Cristian?
Anyway I just wonder whether attending some really huge online marketing conferences would be a good way to bring in business for freelancers? Yes they might be expensive but remember you can take a trip and bill your business
You could learn a huge amount from attending these conferences and perhaps you could get some amazing business in from networking?
I found this cool list of Worldwide Digital Conferences for 2016. I don't know about you but I would love to attend things like this!

As for the marketing aspect for a freelancer. I definitely think you'd be able to get a few on going jobs just by attending these conferences and talking to people. You have to talk to people though, they won't just come up to you and give you a job lol
You can also go another route and buy some advertising space at the event in terms of a booth, putting up banners or getting your brochure in the giveaways bags to every member. I personally would go with the brochure marketing in the bags because people will take those home with them and possibly read them when they're online
