What is the best text to speech software today? Software or web version

We've had text to speech software with us for a while now. Back 10ish years ago, we had it but it was rather basic and primitive and very "robotic" sounding. These days, the technology has improved and the voices used sound much more human like. Do you have any experience in this area and have tried out some text-to-speech software or online web app or anything to do it and can recommend a good one to use?

I used to do it a lot about 5+ years ago but can't remember the sites or software I used for it now I don't think. But I may have a very genuine reason for it and need to do a lot of it. So I'm looking for a good free online text to speech software or app I can use to convert some text files into speech for me. But not sound robotic but sound good like a human!

Does anyone know of any good free online text to speech software or apps or anything they can recommend to me? One you've been using yourself perhaps? Preferably one that doesn't have a limit on how much text you can convert to speech or one that lets me convert at least 1000 words for free. Or are there any good sites of software for this you know of who have plans or prices that are reasonable and affordable?

I guess I need to get Googling and see what I can come up with which I will. But I thought I'd just ask here first in case anyone knows of or can recommend something or point me in the right direction for that sort of thing. Much obliged to you if you do!

Cheers!

Mike.

I'm also very interested in an already tested speech software. I want to create youtube tutorials on all kind of stuff for a long time now, but one thing always brought me down, my accent. I have a really strong accent because I rarely use spoken English. And I know how frustrating guys with heavy accents can be when trying to explain something on youtube, they rarely get a good amount of view and when they get it, everyone complains about the accent and low quality sound.

Oh, that's another one, low quality sound. I would have to invest in some professional microphone and so one.
So a speech software may help a lot, I even willing to buy one if its good enough, meaning no robotic voice and some decent speech fluency.

I've never used text to speech software before and I have never looked into it so I haven't heard of any software available sorry!

But I am really interested in hearing what is out there. I have met a lot of people in the online marketing niche that want to start with Youtube but they don't want to speak for various reasons like they don't like their voice, they are confident because of their accent or they don't speak English very well. I would love to be able to share a great free software with them.

On that note I have done plenty of Youtube videos and I have been told I have a "sexy accent" LOL, so maybe I should add a service for voice overs! I don't have any sound equipment though What is the best text to speech software today? Software or web version

In the past I've used Balabolka (free and opensource, PC version).
Other alternative is naturalreaders.com (free and online)

I have some older Microsoft software via the partner program and it is very robust and programmable for it's time. Now there is some very robust software and I would try to find the latest and greatest. I get telemarketing calls that are using these software and are quite close to beating the Turing test, " a machine's ability to exhibit intelligent behavior equivalent to, or indistinguishable from, that of a human. Turing proposed that a human evaluator would judge natural language conversations between a human and a machine that is designed to generate human-like responses."

I'm sorry I never used such software personally so I cannot recommend any. I think that I would rather opt for voice overs though because even though there may have been some amelioration in the quality of the voice provided with using such software, it may be time consuming to find a good one and to be satisfied with the final result. Besides it is easy to find someone who does voice overs at reasonable prices I believe.
