A lot of people ask me when I work and how much I work. My answers always confuse them because they're so use to working the typical 9 to 5 and having a boss. I work 60+ hours a week so that I don't have to work 40 hours a week and have to answer to my boss and my boss's boss. Every job I've ever had has had plenty of weak links in the chain in terms of how smart they are. I would be doing something that is more streamlined and affective but since it wasn't in the "rule book" they saw it as me going against authority... even though I would cut a ton of time of the project.
Anyway...
Working for myself is much more beneficial because I can do what I want, when I want. I can work for 3 hours and then play a video game for 3 hours if I want, then come back and work another 8 hours. That's not what usually happens, but I have done this in the past lol
Working for a boss just doesn't suit some of us because we can't handle authority well. I know personally that if someone is telling me to do something just because they can, I'm going to get pissed off at them. I've had managers who would pull me off of a project or job and have me do something for them. That's not what would get me pissed off at them though. I would get mad because at the end of the day I would still be working on the original project or job and this manager would come back and be annoyed that I wasn't finished. I actually brought this up to the GM when we had an employee meeting and he wanted me to come find him after the meeting to tell him who the manager was. He didn't want me to out the manager right there lol. This kind of backfired though since the manager I outed was best friends with the other manager who wrote up the schedule, whoop! Didn't think that through very much. But I honestly didn't think that she would stoop to the level of running to her friend to reduce my hours enough and eventually giving me 0 hours.
In the end, the people who are working 60+ hours a week so they don't have to work 40 hours for a boss are in it for the freedom and less stress. I know that I do it so I can push my company as hard as I want and I don't have to answer to anyone who is as smart as a rock
What do you guys and girls think?
Have you had the joy of working with a less than intelligent manager or boss and wanted to quit just because of them?
Have you been able to go full time freelancer and break the typical 9 to 5 work scenario?
Thanks,
Razzy

I went and requested that they buy me my own printer/ scanner/ copier/ fax so that I did not have to rely on reception to do these things for me. I needed to be quick. It cost like R1000 (less than $150) and he refused. I threw such a wobbly, because it was ridiculous. Anyway it is things like that that drive me crazy. A boss that is hardly ever there, expecting me to save him thousands every day by working deals with suppliers but I can't even print in my own office or scan anything. GGRRR OMG yes Razzy. I got into trouble once with the financial director of a multi million Rand company I worked for. I did a very important job - the purchasing for all the sites. I had to get everything to the sites and the office as fast and efficiently as possible. The financial ramifications if something was delivered late was huge. Plus some of the orders I placed were like over R100 000, so I had to work it with my suppliers to get the best possible prices. There was one scanner, at reception and it went to the receptionists computer.
