HTTP Response Code 410 Gone vs Custom Gone Code

I know many people recommend using a 404 response, but I have decided not to in this case, as I want to distinguish resources that have been deleted intentionally. I have resources that may be deleted, however it's possible they could be recreated, or a resource that results in the same url could appear in the future. What is better to use in this case, a 410 Gone response (which indicates the resource is gone forever, and this url should not be referred to anymore) or a custom response to indicate the file is gone?
