How much time/care do you put into writing a good article?

I always love reading a really well written article, something with lots of details going into it.

And, I can always tell when a writer has taken his time on the writing aspect or just hurried through it, giving the barest minimum details.

And, I'm sure all this detail makes a big difference in terms of not only read perception but also search engine ranking potential. More words are better in terms of article length, you can just say what you need to say without having to skimp. And, the reader feels better in the end, as if they've learned all there is to know.

My point that I'm getting at, if you are going to write that type of article, you'll have to spend more time at it, right? That's my assumption and I want you to confirm for me just how much time you would have to spend at writing these very high quality articles that are in-depth. Especially each aspect such as research, writing, editing/polishing, etc before you say that it's good to go.

Also how long does it take for a writer to complete said project? Not talking about one of these articles you scrape from the internet and spin but an article you start from scratch, your own ideas, research, writing, etc. And, possibly more than 1000 words.

Is there a certain time frame writers go by or do you just go with the flow?

For me to write an article I will have to like subject, or be a little knowledgeable within the subject. I can not seem to find the energy to write about things I don't like. It's mostly down to me not having enough passion. If I am passionate about something I'll put a lot of time, and care into it. If I am not passionate I will probably spend 10 minutes on it, and post the article.

However, I typically don't like to write long articles. I like them to be at least 500 words or less, this is due to me watching a study of people only spending like 15 to 20 seconds reading a long article and mostly just exiting a page VS watching a video of the same topic..

Hi Everett. I totally agree with you about being passionate about a topic. I just cannot seem to find the energy to write something I am not passionate about.

I have had a few people contact me and ask me to do content writing for them but I would never be able to do that. I just can't write if I don't care about it.

So the level of passion I have for the topic affects how much time I will spend on it too.

I don't believe it about one articles, you would be surprise that long articles are not read up to 20 seconds by readers because people have short interest or attention span.If you want your message to read and assimilated then try a shorter apt and concise articles which might take approximately 1 hours.you might waste ample time writing long articles and nobody read them to the end.

HI jkeyz2 thanks for your question. I do not know how much time will take for writing a content or article. It is completely depend on subject or how many word will you write according to plan. Normally if I write any article which i know very best, that is not taking too much time. I can write 100 word within couple of minutes. But, If I do know have good idea, I need to learn about that topic, Than I am going to take plan to write my own way with evidence. I have no time frame, when I will write article or not. But I like to write in motionless circumstance

Writing a detailed and well researched article takes time, especially if you have never written on that particular topic and you need to do all the reading and research from scratch. As a writer I prefer to write on topics that I am conversant with but at times you are assigned subjects that I am not knowledgeable about. So I need to take the time to read other articles so as to get acquainted with the subject area before starting to write. So on average you need to spend about half an hour reading before you can start writing and then I also continue reading as I write and get more ideas.

This really varies for me depending on which website of mine I am writing for.

Keyword research usually takes about an hour on its own, no matter which website I write for. Sometimes competitor analysis will keep me busy for another hour, especially if I have to go back and do more keyword research.

Then I spend about an hour or so researching content but this also depends on the website. If it is for my mommy blog or my addiction blog I am often just sharing my own experiences so there might be no research needed for the content.

My posts are usually around 1000 - 1500 words but sometimes up to 3500 words. This can take me anywhere from 1 hour to 3 hours depending on the type of content and the length of the post.

I usually add a Youtube video too so filming my video and getting it right can take up to an hour and then uploading it to Youtube and writing the description and optimizing for SEO can take another hour.

Then I need to add in all my images, which I am really slow at and I often struggle with. This can take me another hour to get right.

Then of course after publishing my content I share it on social networks, add it to my Mass Planner software and get Google to crawl... all of these tasks can take another hour.

This whole process usually takes a full day from start to finish to write one quality post of about 1500 words. When I wrote a 3500 word post a little while back it took me more than two full days from start to finish.

This is how I write an article. First is the outline. I collect ideas and topics for a particular subject matter. When the outline looks substantial, I sort it in a desired sequence to give my article a semblance of a smooth flow of ideas. And then I review the outline before writing the article. After the draft is completed, I make a run through to check on the thought. Is it interesting? Is the information substantial enough? The second reading is all about the style of writing. Is the paragraphing proper and sensible? How about the grammar? Before I can come up with the final version of my article, I had read it 5 times at the least but sometimes it takes 10 readings before I consider it final.

The topic I am writing determines the time I will be spending on researching and writing. If someone commissions me to write on alternative healing, I can complete a 1000 words article in just two hours because I know about this topic and I have lots of experience writing on this topic. However, if someone commissions me to write medical article, it will take me long because I know little about thus topic and I have to spend a lot of time researching.

Writing a good article involves having to give it your maximum attention in order to get the best out of what you've written. Sometimes, I spent close to 3 hours writing articles especially when I was given such tasks by clients who might be interested in giving me other works in the future to do for them as well.

I think most of the time 1000 words take me around an hour or so. The thing is about researching the keyword and the content. And also some of the time I have manage with the content. So one has to consider amount of research being taken care of here. You have to adjust the word count accordingly. I don't become cut throat here. It depends on how much I have to write. So that's something to think about here as well. I guess for each one of us it could be different to consider this as well.
