Feature Request: Request a Job

I'd like to request a cool feature that could go on to be a very popular and liked feature amongst both buyers and sellers and that is for buyers to be able to "Request a Job" or request work from a seller right from their service page. The way it would work is it's just a contact form basically where you can send the seller a Job Request which they can put details about their request such as when they need it by, any special preferences they have and other details and stuff about what they're looking for. As well as how much they're willing to pay. Then the seller can review it and if they can do it and agree to the price, they can "accept" the request and it will create a new order.

There would have to be a link on the service page somewhere, or you could even put on on the sellers profile and give them the ability to enable/disable that feature (just in case some sellers didn't want to take requests).

I suggest just a link in the sidebar like.
Feature Request: Request a Job
So in steps it would be like.

  1. Buyer clicks the Request a Job link.
  2. Then has to fill out job requirements/put price he/she is willing to pay.
  3. Seller can either accept or reject the job.
  4. If accept, it creates the order and work begins.

The only thing I can see that needs thinking about is the price that the buyer puts. Sometimes some people might request something that would normally sell for say $75 but only bid $3 or something small. In that case, seller can choose to reject the work of course. But if there was an option to leave a message and make a counter-price for their bid they could say so and put their price they will do the work that buyer is requesting.

Trust me I've thought this through!

I personally would like this feature so that people could request unique jobs and work and services from me. Sometimes I get potential clients that want what I'm offering but something similar or perhaps want something extra as well. So this could help you to sell a lot more stuff, give buyers more flexibility to really get what they want and work well all round.

It would just need to have to be built/coded/tested/rolled out/tested/ and see how it goes. It should be made so that it can be easily removed from the site if it causes some problems down the line and needs to be locked tight and secure too oc.

But what problems could come about from this feature?
What do you think of this feature as an idea?
Would you like to take job requests if it meant getting more sales?

Let us know your thoughts and feedback.

Thanks!

A "request a job" feature would be nice, but like Everett said, it seems to be a work around of the Want To Buy (WTB). I think a better feature would be an "invite to job" option for people to invite whoever they want to their WTB. This way the WTB section would flourish and people wouldn't have to search as much for jobs they can do. A custom job would get tricky over time though. You would have to manage a ton of different orders that all have something unique with them. I've done this in the past for clients and it's extremely tough to keep track of since each order isn't similar. You could be doing blog posting for one person but the next guy or girl wants blog posting on specific blog types. This gets confusing because if you're like me, you get in "work mode" and try to hammer out as much as possible in a short amount of time. Having all the jobs being very similar is easier because you can just switch out the domain name and not the process. Setting up these new campaigns is tedious if you have to do it for every new client Feature Request: Request a Job

The person being invited to the job can decline if they already have a lot of work or accept it if they think they can handle the custom order because they don't have a lot of sales at the time.

In the end, I personally think an "Invite to job" would be better than "request a job" because it would still utilize the WTB system that is already in place.

It seems like a workaround for the WTB feature. Instead of posting a want, you can go directly to the source to request a job. I like this idea, but it seems it may negatively reflect the WTB feature. Here's are some problems I can see in the future if this was implemented:
  • People will be posting many jobs so it could get quite annoying to a seller. Perhaps add an option to disable the feature for those that don't want to do jobs that are requested by a buyer
  • It could possibly evolve the marketplace into a "job request" system, and negatively impact the idea of a marketplace
  • There would be no extras, or any other features, or maybe there could be..

That is all I could think of now, if anything else comes to me I'll be sure to update this post. Overall, I tend to think it's a nice feature.

2.?Then has to fill out job requirements/put price he/she is willing to pay.

Point 2 has to be very easy to submit. Make it as easy as possible for the buyer to submit a request of this sorts. Also is different from WTB in my opinion since a buyer can be interested in just one specific seller from which he wants a custom job.

Yes Cristian! I LOVE this idea. I have requested special things from sellers before and they have always helped me out which I appreciate.

I thought it is quite like want to buy section, which are the freelancer,or buyer either can place their proposals and we bid for that proposals, do you understand for it?

It is slightly different. I am a buyer and I don't like the idea of a WTB because any seller can apply. I don't want to have to go through all of the information sent to me.

This is a feature where a buyer like me can request something I want from a specific seller. And yes this appeals to me very much because I usually only purchase from a few specific sellers. And maybe if I find a new seller I want to try out I may use this type of feature too.

So there is quite a bit difference.

I think this is an awesome idea! As a buyer I don't want to submit a WTB because I don't want half the sellers here contacting me and then I have to look through all of those sellers.

I usually know the sellers that I want to buy from and would rather put a request in with one of those sellers instead. I have actually contacted sellers via private message before and put in a request for a specific service I would like. Very often it happens that I want a sightly different service from what they offer. Having a special place to submit a request like this would be useful for me

HI idealmike thanks for sharing a nice post. I do agree with your offer like a new feature for creating order by request. That should be useful for buyer and seller. I think many buyer and seller recently raise a points for customize service or customize offer. I think your suggested feature may take place instead. That should good an idea. Interested buyer can put custom price and service requirement and seller can review before accept buyer offer. After offer accept, that order will create for progress. I really choose your offer. But, if Jordan will take step for this, he can put this option just below on order now section. This is my suggestion.
