Uppercase or Lowercase in the URL?

I'm seeing this mistake time and time again. New clients with old websites have both uppercase URLs and lowercase URLs.
Google to some extent sees the two and separate entities and of course will treat them as duplicate content.

So always make sure to set this from .htaccess: www.example.com/TEST should always 301 to www.example.com/test

Always choose the lowercase as the main URL structure. Also, some website may not have duplicate URLs but it's still possible to load pages like www.Example.com/tEsT - don't know why someone will type like this buy sometimes people do.

Example: https://www.seocheckout.com/Faq leads to 404 - it should redirect 301 to lowercase URL.

Cristian I am confused now. I have not used any uppercase text in any of my URLs. So how would this affect me, if at all?

Is this only for people that have used uppercase text in their URLs.

Yes and no. I personally prefer having a 301 redirect no matter if I have upper case URLs or not. Keep in mind if I type in my Brower www.seocheckout.com/Faq - my visit will appear as a separate entity in Google analytics, it will not merge with the statistics from lower case /faq.

Let me know if you got my point.

Yes I sort of get your point... soooo are you saying I should create a 301 redirect for every page and post on my website? And what if they type in www.seocheckout.com/FAQ for example? Now you are looking at two 301 redirects right?

It just seems like a lot of work doesn't it? And the possibilities are just endless for these upper and lower case urls!

What about if the url was: www.seocheckout.com/frequently-asked-questions would you then do redirects for:
www.seocheckout.com/Frequently-asked-questions
www.seocheckout.com/Frequently-Asked-Questions
www.seocheckout.com/FREQUENTLY-ASKED-QUESTIONS

I'm not sure hey, this sounds to me like it could be a pointless exercise.

You can set a command in .htaccess that will redirect any upper case letter url to the lower case one.
It's pretty simple actually and hardly any work, it will be a general rule.

Check this out as an example:
https://moz.com/bloG
https://MOZ.com/Blog
https://moz.com/BLOG

Notice how all of them are being redirected to the lower case version? This is a best practice scenario. SC has to improve on its on-page SEO lol.

I like all lowercase in the URL just because everything else is lowercase, including https://www., you'll never see HTTPS://WWW. Because of this, if I have to program any categories, the SEO friendly URL would be something like "https://www.example.com/category/arts-crafts" or "https://www.example.com/category/arts-crafts/how-to-make-a-blanket". Overall, it just looks nicer to the eye. Having uppcase letters like the Community Discussions have make it appear to look bad in my opinion.

I'm also unsure if there is a negative SEO impact due to titles being uppercase or even lowercase. But as a rule of thumb for me, always use lowercase in the URLs.
