Conversion rates for affiliate programs?

I started with affiliate marketing a year ago. I started off last year knowing nothing, but now I am getting into the swing of things.
What would you consider a good conversion rate?

I have had lots of referrals now to free trials in the last few months which is really exciting but I have not had a massive amount of sales. Does it just mean this takes some time to get going or is there a problem with my conversion rate?

I have had 56 sign ups for a trial to a great program yet no paid sign ups yet... do some people wait a while before signing up or do you think that I lost those sales?

If you can break even with affiliate marketing, consider yourself on the right path Conversion rates for affiliate programs?

Normal conversions are 1 in 100 when on a PPC network, but it's slightly different when it comes to affiliate marketing. And if you're pushing a free sign up affiliate link then you're conversions will just make you angry Conversion rates for affiliate programs? A ton of people will sign up for free stuff just to see exactly what it's about. So think of each sign up as 1 click like on a PPC platform similar to adwords. Now adwords will say you'll normally get 1 in 5 clicks turning into a sale, but with my experience it's closer to 1 in 50 or maybe even 1 in 100. This is why I base everything out of 100, because it's a nice even number and I can get a more accurate conversion rate when I'm building a game plan.

If you're pushing a free sign up affiliate link, then you'll get many more sign ups than sales. One in 100 is a normal conversion rate with this type of offer because people can enter their email without having to open up their wallets. You could even see that it might be a bit higher than 1 in 100 sign ups, which is pretty off putting, but does happen Conversion rates for affiliate programs? You have to do a lot of testing and get plenty of sign ups in order to get an accurate conversion rate. I'd say after you get 500 sign ups you'll be able to get a better idea of your conversions, but you'll never really know until then Conversion rates for affiliate programs?

Shoot for 1 in 100, and if you still don't have any conversions after that, I'd switch my offer to see if I can find something that converts better.

Hi Razzy

Ok so I am not doing something wrong then, this is just the way it goes. Ok so I need to just work on getting more traffic and getting myself out there more.

Thanks for explaining this better for me.

This is a great topic! I'm going to display my affiliate statistics, and disclose my affiliate stats because I want to demonstrate what my conversions are currently and to give a rough idea of bad ratios.

My Affiliate Stats:

Affiliate Clicks: 346,570
Affiliate Members: 169

So by those stats, it currently takes an average of 2,050 clicks for me to gain an affiliate, and that's not including if the affiliate actually purchases a service. If I wanted to know I could demonstrate how many affiliates and clicks it takes to gain an affiliate that is an active buyer, however that'll take into account a lot of variables which would be quite time consuming and the results would be rather depressing. I don't normally advertise for affiliate, and I believe most are from my old demos, or scripts I coded for Seocheckout affiliate scripts.

Moral of all this is to find good affiliates, and to keep your views to signups quite low. You need to target those that are specifically looking for the product or need otherwise your stats may end up like mine, lol!

I do agree with Razzy that you are on the correct path, however I'm unsure of your statistics. How long did it take to gain those 56 signups? Are you advertising everyday? Do you pay to gain those signups?

Hi Everett

No I didn't pay anything to get those signups, those are just through organic traffic since 01 May 2016 for one affiliate offer. Ok so I am on the right path I think. I must just be patient and of course also work on getting more organic traffic.

Thanks Everett, it is getting better! I got a conversion yesterday! YAY! And it is a monthly rate so I am looking forward to seeing more come.

I am a bit frustrated because it is school holidays and I have learned so much here recently that I want to start implementing some of these things but instead I have to start packing to take my kids for a trip to their grandparents. When I learn new things I want to do it immediately.

Oh well I suppose I should take a break! It is only a few days and holidays end on the 18th...

Can someone give me a real example of conversion rate vs clicks. How many clicks before you get a conversion? How much do you normally spend for PPC before you get a conversion?

In a blanket context, 1 in 100 is a reasonable expectation for well-designed but not carefully targeted content. Most of my income and conversions come from a very small number of my sites. So these days I focus on creating a site that shows how a particular product solves a particular problem. When you strike something that is real, and that no one else has thought of, then your conversion rate will go way up for just that url. I think it is very much worth spending the time to try and get those elements to click together.

I think you have very little data to judge effectiveness. Although I would still double-check all your stages of the sales funnel and think how it can be improved. You are right, judging from experience, some customers return after a month. You can also use this source about Conversion Rate Optimisation (CRO) to find out more
