How to remain stress free with confrontational people?

Life is full of tense situations.

But, I want to remain as calm and level headed as possible, without being sucked into the drama. This is the best way to make good decisions in a pressure cooker situation.

Please give me tips for how to remain neutral and emotionally detached even in emotionally charged situations where someone else is acting hostile or confrontational.

Take a deep breath and try to step outside yourself. Look at the situation from the other person's point of view.

The other person might be having a bad day and if they're venting at you, then that's not right, but it does happen.

Sometimes, it's part of your job to deal with angry people or you have to put yourself in the line of fire. And, you aren't going to be able to dodge every bullet.

Meditate or do deep breathing. Seems to work well for me.

Doing meditation and Yoga, you can have more control over your emotions. Best time for doing this is early in the morning.

Set yourself up for success. Have little pep talks with yourself before meeting with people that are of this nature and you will just be fine.

When you are confronted with an angry person, imagine that they are angry at someone else and not angry at you.

Don't internalize the other person's anger or point their anger at yourself as if they are speaking about you.

This will allow you to remain objective even when someone is yelling.

The best way to go about it is to remain calm that moment and try as much as you can to deflect that negative feeling the person is trying to pass across to you. I mean by being happy all the time, no one can actually make you feel angry in any situation.

As a bank officer, we regularly hold an officers meeting participated in by my peers. Most of the time, arguments arise that we seemed to have gotten used to it. When I would be facing someone who is confrontational, my demeanor would always be calm and quiet. Silence can deaden the heat of arguments as I had experienced so that is my usual reaction in cases of disagreements.
