Facebook lets you change your name several times. But, many times i see fake names from users such as Kitty LuvsU (as the username) or some other made up name. And, you know that's not a real name. But these accounts are not terminated, even though fake names are clearly against Facebook TOS. Just wondering if you ever used a fake name on Facebook (such as a name that was not really yours). And, do you worry your account could be shut down over that?

No, I haven't used. I think people should use their real names rather then using your fake accounts.

Nope I use my own name. I have many friends on there that I grew up with and if I used a fake name they would not know me.

Oh yes I agree with you Tommy. But I only accept people that I know on my personal FB account.

I use my own name. Why lie to others? I do not think that is a great way to start off your facebook page.

No, I have never used a fake name myself on Facebook, I have changed my name before to include my middle name however after I think it was 2 changes they have not allowed me to change it anymore. I can't understand myself why people change their names on Facebook to include weird random names that do not mean anything.

Yes this to me is really odd. Like my cousin has a weird name added into hers that I just do not understand at all.

Then why not ask your cousin why s/he is doing it? There are reasons in almost everything people do in Facebook, let alone having a fake name or a code name.

No, I only use my real name on social networking as I don't like to hide my true identity. I also put my username as my "nickname" on social networking sites so people can confirm it is me if they aren't sure :P

But according to facebook only allows 5 times to change your name.

Fake names could protect you from being easily found by a former girlfriend or someone who you are hiding from.

Using a real first and last name might make you a target of someone who doesn't like you as they could easily find you at any time on Facebook. Changing even your last name on Facebook will protect you from privacy intrusions.

I'm using a fake name because I only use Facebook for marketing purposes. I know how to contact my real friends and family without the need for a website to do that for me :)

I have a professional identity on Facebook, with my Facebook group and page and all that is tied in with my own personal timeline where I promote my other Facebook ventures. I am happy to use my real name there.

I think Facebook don't terminate theme... I have seen several people using names like bee biz, real alisha etc.

I had to Google this one to find out for sure but came up with this information from Facebook's official TOS page.

Maybe there are legitimate reasons to start a secondary Facebook account such as your first one was hacked or can no longer be accessed. However, it seems they don't want one person having multiple accounts. Though I realize it's common practice for many in internet marketing to have numerous Facebook and other related social accounts.

Facebook will look the other way if they are making money from an account though. My account name is obviously fake, as it's the name of an animal joke, but they have my real name when I buy FB ads and it doesn't seem to bother them that the names don't match...

I don't really see the purpose in using a fake name, when the only people who are seeing my Facebook timeline are friends and family. What if I were to change my name to something silly like 'BabyDoll' and then I got unfriended by my grandmother?
So maybe that is a far fetched hypothetical, but its not unreasonable to think it could happen. At least one of your friends will not recognize you anymore f you change your name to something fake on Facebook.

Users such as Kitty LuvsU might have been created way back the Facebook policy. Fake names are intended for fake accounts. Fake accounts intended to to bad stuff online like sending spams or misleading information. Some consider Facebook Real-name Policy as invading privacy. Is raises questions around identity and the right to self-determination on social media. Some or most users are still grasping for some semblance of privacy. So for safety reasons they use fake names.

No I do not for my personal page. I use a fake name on here because Taffy is not my real name but on my facebook page, I use my full real name.

That's still a fake name. Adding something on your name will make it different from your real name, so it's still fake in any way you look at it.
