Average number of friends on Facebook

How many friends does the average Facebook user have? From what I've read you can add up to 5000 friends, although I don't know anyone who would know so many people in real life.

For me personally, I have approximately 450 friends on my FB. I don't have a close relationship with all of them, of course. They are people who I have gone to school with, worked with from various jobs, etc. When I see them out and about in the community, I say hello to them and chat.

I get a kick out of people who have all kinds of friends on their FB, but won't give them the time of day when seen out in public. That's when you have to think "What's the point?".

I read somewhere that the average number of friends on Facebook is around 150 and that takes into account some people who have massive friend lists and others who only have a few friends.

My initial Facebook account became inaccessible so I had to start over. And, since then I have only added 70+ friends, most of whom I know personally in real life, from family social circles or school.

I'd rather have fans than friends on Facebook as my in real life friends all live close to me so I don't have to contact them via Facebook. We can just talk in person or on the phone.

You are right that 5,000 is the maximum number of friends that you can have in Facebook. But for the average maybe I will say 500 to 1,000 because that’s what I see in my friends too. My friends are less than 1,000 but more than 500. They are mostly people that I know from relatives to personal friends and acquaintances. I cannot get more than a thousand friends because I cannot react to their posts if they are that many.
