How'd you first learn about SEO?

I first learned about SEO from a work at home mom forum. Then i started reading SEO ebooks that i found online. And, later found out about Google Webmaster Blog and Matt Cutts.

So much has changed over the years.

How did you first learn about SEO?

I first learned about it when I started doing forum posting jobs. Started working on web design and entertainment topics. Then on one, I came to read a few things about SEO and related topics. Since then, I started working on similar forums. I earn while I learn.

Earning while you learn is a nice idea just like having business with pleasure. Sometimes it pays when we are inquisitive that we ask if we hit something that we do not know. When I first came to this forum I was wondering what SEO is all about and I didn’t have the idea that it is optimization for the search engines because I did not dare check on discussions about it. But now here I am and still learning the SEO methods that I can find in the discussions in this forum.

SEO is very much an on the job training experience, especially if you blog or own your own site as you'll want to read up on SEO to make your posts rank higher in Google.

Do you specifically search for the meaning of SEO on Google Search? Or you just accidentally found it on the search results?

And, if you did search SEO you might or might not find relevant results as both useful wiki style sites on the subject of SEO as well as SEO companies are ranking for that search term. And, the SEO companies are not interested in educating you as to how to do your own SEO.

Yeah. Besides, I don't think a normal internet surfer first learn about SEO after searching the abbreviation online. We all know that these people care less on SEO, right? It's definitely that you might have read it somewhere or a guy told you about it.

It would be difficult to pinpoint the very first time i heard the phrase SEO but i'm sure it must have been on a work at home forum as that was pretty much the only place i went when i first got online, if only so i could learn how to earn money from home.

I was introduced to online writing in 2005. However, I did not begin to publish regularly until 2010. As I began to build readership, I heard of SEO but did not know what it was. In 2012, I was accepted into an apprenticeship program on HubPages. The six months intensive course on online writing and publishing taught me a lot of things including SEO. The basis of my SEO knowledge is of that course. However, I never stopped learning. Later I attended SEO courses in various online schools and built my knowledge.

I have to be honest that I only learned about SEO when I joined this forum. I have been seeing that term SEO and I know the meaning – search engine optimization – but I didn’t have a clear idea of what it was all about. And when I started reading the discussions in this site, I began to learn what SEO is for and how to go about in getting the benefits. I also learned that SEO specialist is now a legitimate job in the internet.
