Can I move my blog to a new host without losing ranking?

Please tell me how to maintain my current search engine ranking and page rank for my blog, if I move it to a new host. I don't want to lose my ranking and I can't afford to start over as I have put in too much time into my blog.

You should do a 301 redirect (permanent redirect) for every post and page on your website. Don't just do the redirect for the home page.

You can find out more details on how to set that up here.

It's a lot of work, it depends on how many articles you have in your blog. As Beverly suggested you should do a 301 redirection on each post.. Also if possible for every tag too.. You will waste a lot of time, but there isn't any good way to do it! Can I move my blog to a new host without losing ranking?

If it is wordpress then you hardly need to do anything.
First contact your new host and ask them about site migration. This usually happens in anywhere between a few minutes to over an hour.

I recently moved two of my blogs that were over 6 years old both having close to 2000 posts. I moved from shared hosting to managed wordpress hosting and the process took only a few minutes.

Your site IP and DSN servers are going to be changed and you might see your currently rankings fluctuate a bit but that is 100% normal and nothing to worry about. You will not lose current rankings unless your new host has issues with slow page load times and frequent server down times which I hope is not the case with your new host.

If you are only changing the hosting only, your ranking won't be affected due to that unless its very slow compared to previous hosting.

If you are changing the domain name though, it will be different story.

 no links for a newbi - but it's there anyway in the original reply

Sorry, but you are wrong - she only needs a redirect if she'd want to change the domain. This does not apply to hosting changes - read Kashif4k's reply, he is right.
