What are high quality backlinks?

So many people talk about getting 'high quality backlinks'. But, really what does high quality mean? For instance, my version of high quality might differ from someone else's idea. What's your idea of a 'high quality' backlink? How do you judge the quality of a backlink to determine if it's worth having?

A backlink from a well respected site such as Wikipedia or a medical journal or blog would be considered high quality. Perhaps even a backlink from an edu blog if you can get it.

Remember the words of Mark Twain, (paraphrased lol), 'if I had more time I would have written a shorter letter'. Meaning boil down and refine your words.

Find your niche, say what it is, link to it, and the content will drive traffic to your site.

It takes more time to make a short, yet meaningful article than it does to free flow write and leave it unedited. That's because you have to nit pick all the little details.

High quality back links are to get do follow links on high page rank sites, the sites must be relevant and to do links on social networking sites is better to get noticed by search engines.

High quality backlinks are to include other website links to your site. It is alike vice versa, a two way road where the readers from both sites visit each other as long as they are related topics.

For me, high quality backlinks are the backlinks that come from edu, org or gov sites. High quality backlinks are the backlinks that come from the sites that have high ranks on the search engines, have quality contents and get good traffic. High quality backlinks are the backlinks that increase your domain authority and search engine page rank

Based on the discussions that I had read in this forum, backlinks have their quality too. When you post your website’s link on an obscure site, what do you think will happen, what benefit can you get? When you post your link on a very popular forum, what do you think will happen, will your website get traffic from that? You can answer the questions above for yourself and know what a quality backlink is.
