Google Wi-Fi

Google is thinking about deploying WiFi networks for cities that are covered by Google's own Google Fiber high speed internet service. This would happen next year, in 2015. There would be 34 cities that would be considered for this.

Specific details have not been released, just a statement stating that when the time comes, each city will be discussing this with Google. Google has stated that they don't have specific plans but would love to provide WiFi services for these cities.

There are already a few towns that have this service, which include Provo, Utah and Kansas City. Next on the list is Austin, Texas. For $105 a month, the customer can have basis speed, or upgrade to $220 a month that includes 200 TV channels. As for installing this, the price is anywhere between free and $450.

So would you consider this if it were offered in your area? Personally I am turned off by the installation charge of $450, but the $220 package seems to be pretty reasonable to me.

If it's a available here in asia, I would consider using it but I doubt that it would be available here soon.

Sounds a little on the high side for me. Though I'm only using basic internet now and don't have much use for the internet beyond forums and Facebook and browsing online. If I were watching movies online everyday, then maybe I would need more advanced internet services.

I thought this Google Wifi is the one that I had read about Google’s plan to have a free wifi all over the world. Anyway, Google is a big name so probably there is no question regarding reputation and no need for the scrutiny of the company profile. Unfortunately, I am not a resident of America so maybe it will take decades before Google wifi can come over in this third world country. So for now, I have to suffice with the slow internet access by the present provider.
