Is your business dependent on Google?

I will say if your business is dependent on only Google then it is really very bad business policy and you don't have any control over your business, you should be careful to it, you shouldn't put all the eggs in one basket for better control.

I think you can depend on Google but you must also look at the big picture and see what the other search engines hold for you as well.

You need to spread yourself out. You should not be dependent on just google. Mix it up and use other search engines as well.

I really feel that you need to be dependent on all of them. If you just are dependent on one and you end up not ranking so high, are you really getting the traffic you need to your site?

You really need to be dependent on all search engines not just google. Fine if you want to place google at the top but also strive to be good on all of them.

I think this is a bit one sided...
Almost everyone depends on google in some way shape or form. And for those of us for instance who use adwords, google is a sure way of making ends meet versus other ad platforms who do not carry the same traffic load.
So depending on the situation, i would say google is more than imperative to any businesses serious development. As far as search status, no one else still comes anywhere close, you cant rely on just yahoo & bing for profit, youll get nowhere.

At one time, all my blogs and online Hubs/articles were dependent on Google search engine for traffic. Then Panda happened and many big sites like Hubpages, eHow, etc were devalued. It took a very long time to recover from that. Since then, I rely more on the built in community of a site for page views and traffic and other traffic generation techniques not specifically related to SEO. And, though I think SEO is important, I'm not staking everything I have on it.

That is a great idea Beverly. the built in communities are a great idea to get the page views that you need to have.

I count a lot on Google to generate traffic and money from my website. But as i am an experienced site blocked by Google users, i use others ways to drive traffic and monetize my website! Google is good but you must take advantages of alternatives and compatible programs of adsense.

At the moment my business in 100% depends on it. I'm working in a profession that is based on the search engine results in google and my few private websites earn a small pocket money too.

Google provides a percentage of my page views, but I don't let that make me lazy and am very active also promoting on forums, blogs and Facebook groups so that everyone knows about my blog.

Not just on Google. I like the idea of spreading yourself out, because not everyone is a fan of Google.

I'm dependent on Google for numerous services which they provide free including Youtube and don't want to imagine my life without them.

Dependent solely on Google? No. I have a store site which I heavily promote in various social media platforms. I think it's more effective for me to get traffic coming from my target niches in social media. Also the results are faster when it comes to conversions.

Do you mean Google the search engine or the Google products? Whatever it is, I agree that you should not be putting all your eggs in one basket because when something goes wrong then you will be left empty-handed. For instance, this year there were 2 policy changes by Google and we were hit hard. First policy change is the Youtube monetization that a minimum 1,000 subscribers is now required. Second policy change is by Adsense that cut down to 50% the revenue sharing.
